don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I hope that wasn't the one off V8 they made for rallying.

I had a £60 yuck-beige 1300 Marina back in the mid-80s.
It had been standing outdoors for over a year when I got it. Welded a patch on the NS sill, it went straight through MoT.
Drove to work the next day as a shakedown then set off from Basingstoke to Edinburgh for the weekend. No problems then or any of the other 10-12 times it made that trip (800 miles round trip) including once with a huge box trailer!
It took me and my wife on honeymoon, and did a few trials - preparation consisted of winding the torsion bars up and fitting rear van springs.
Must have done 15-20 K miles over 18 months with no trouble at all. Tell a lie - I got into it one frozen morning and it wouldn't start; dip clutch & it started. Cause - ice in the gearbox! Fan heater, drain water, refill oil....sorted!
Good, simple, reliable, dubious handling. I loved it!
John.
