One more thread about tyres
Sorry to make another thread about tyres but I'm taking the vehicle away next week for a long trip so need to get my head around this and
make sure i order the right tyres first time.
This is confusing me quite a bit, the mixture of old and new tyre sizes, inches and mm etc.
Recap: I have a bedford TK with split rim wheels on and 8.25R16 tubed tyres. This gives an overall height of 32.5 inches. A= 8.25 B=16 C=8.25:
I've measured my wheel and it's more like 33 inches. The tread area does bulge out slighty though (v old tyres which I don't drive
on) so that may explain that.
So now I have 17.5 inch rims that take tubeless wheels. For ages I was looking for 215/75/R17.5 type sizes (would have been too small) and then after
talking to someone at a tyre place they mentioned 9.5R17.5 tyres... I had no idea those sizes came in tubeless, I assumed that was the old measurement
system for tubed tyres.
But his recommendation sounds v odd. Surely with 9.5R17.5 that'd give a tyre height of 36.5... massive.
So surely a 7.5R17.5 would be perfect... overall height the same as my old tyre setup... 32.5"
But I don't know about these old tyres. There is no aspect ratio, am I to assume the ratio is 100 and that they'd be 7.5 inches wide too?
Would that mean they wouldn't fit the rims? I know for a fact people fit 8R17.5 tyres to the same new rims I have... but I don't know if
the 7.5 tyres would be the same width.
So 7.5R17.5 looks perfect... but then they don't appear to be as available as 8R17.5 tyres T_T I have clearance for the extra inch they'd
be though if I need to go for those...
Thanks for any help, LCB ftw <3

tl:dr:
do old tyre sizes (e.g 8.25 R16) have an aspect ratio of 100%?

Isn't there a figure missing from your spec? The 8.5R16 is 8.5inches tread width, radial, 16inch rim. Should'nt there be a tyre diameter
figure as in 30 x 8.5R16?
Edit. Probably not as this may be for light truck only and should be prefixed LT.
I was reading a bit from the wheel and tyre bible suggesting the aspect ratio of old radials was
likely to be 80 or 82. Lots of info there but somewhat confusing stuff for the casual reader.

I don't, I want radials. Hence the R17.5
I'm pretty much up slack alley now. I've still no idea what old tyre sizes are about I'll ring around as many companies as I can
tomorrow to figure it out ^_^

Yeah if the overall diameter value was there it'd make life a lot easier. So the 7.5/8/8.25 value is the tyre width then... making more sence
now
