value for money?
if building a kit with an all in,on the road budget of £9k what make of kit, engine would you go for,and what sort of spec do you think could be
acheived? it would not be a start stop project,it would be a case of buying everything at once and getting started. opinions welcome!

Well, my next plan (when I've sold both my current toys) is to buy a cheap, early MX5 for less than £1000 and run it for a while - then
I'll be buying the Westy single donor package (£6,500 all in) and beating up the MX5 until it becomes a se7en.
That's a build cost of £7,500 plus an allowance for painting, renewing various gaskets/bearings etc. and then IVA/registration on top.
I think it represents good value and the big plus is that I'll get to drive around in a sports car while I save up the rest of the money for the
starter kit - they might be hardresser cars but they're also cracking little track cars too!

The Westy kit comes in 2 stages - the starter kit is the chassis, bodywork etc. and then there's a completion kit that comes with everything
else you need that isn't in kit 1 or taken from the mazda.
What is worth noting is the shear amount of stuff taken off the mazda - far more than the usual uprights and brakes that get taken from sierra
donors.
I've just checked and Westfield have put their prices up a bit so will cost nearer £8k to build (thought they do advertise that they do an
'aerosport' version of the completion kit, which should be a decent saving but it;s not in the price sheets).
I would plan on using the full engine and gearbox as the plan would be to get back into 4 wheeled daftness as efficiently as possible - the 1.6 engine
is a little less powerful than the 1.8, but is also 40kg lighter so performance is just the same. Plus the gearbox in these cars is sublime! And
there's always a chance of a supercharger if you can find a way to fit it under the bonnet

I am building a 2.0 Zetec Mk Indy, complete with a few trick bits - at this stage of the build on paper my total cost is looking at £7500 using mainly
new parts - sure it will creap to nearly £9k but for that should be a mighty fine example

If your not in a rush you could just watch ebay and autotrader etc etc for some part built project that comes along. We all know that our kits are
not really worth the sum of their parts and a part built kit also has that depreciation. I bought a Luego Viento comprehensive kit with two Rover V8
engines and the sierra donor parts already salvaged for 3.5K. I actually thought I got stung at that price as he snapped my hand off!!! A rolling
chassis. I am however going to take more or less everything apart that the previous owner put together but thats no hardship as a Viento
Comprehensive Kit is £5.9k and its not that comprehensive!!!!
Just a thought, there maybe some hidden reason for not doing this but it seems okay to me.

Myself, I'd be looking at the Sylva R1ot or the new MK Midi. £9k should see you on the road with a good spec well performing car.
7'esque styling with a mid engine twist.

Have a look at the MEV kits, really good value IMO. Kit prices initialy seem a little pricey compared to the
budget 7's, but they are very comprehensive and since the the Rocket and Sonic7 are mid engined and use the entire Ford Focus drivetrain there
is no need to source a Sierra diff, propshaft, gearbox etc.

thanks guys.i looked at the MEV atomic. (dont laugh) there was so many people hammeing the way it looked though. i was not sure about the layout of
the car. i do like the MEV rocket but would not want a standard 1.6 zetec.are there any other engine choices other than ford?
