Florida Holiday

Hi
I’m going over to Florida next year in February to watch the Daytona 500
Whilst there I fancy going down to the Florida Keys this would involve an overnight stay in
A hotel somewhere, does anyone know if American travelodges are comparable to UK ones?
Is it better to pre book or haggle on the desk?
And a real long shot does anyone know of a reasonable place down on the Keys somewhere?

I am very jealous
I was in florida for two weeks at easter this year for the second time and love the place.I dont know anywere to stay in the keys but the motels are mostly walk in from the street and are comparable to our travelodge's.
From Orlando to Miami is around 240 miles drive just have lots of change for the tolls.

Florida is full of decent hotels, Best Western, Larkspur, Holiday Inn to name a few, all will be better than your average travelodge just don't get a room near the ice machine..........

oh, take your laptop, all will have free wifi.

Hello LCB's. I got back this morning from Florida and have just woke up to read this.

I have to say I loved it! We spent a day at Daytona beach (petrolhead Nevarna). All of the hotels are great but here's a thing, have you thought of renting an RV? Might be cost effective if you have multiple stops?!

You will have a great time

value everwhere was twice that of the UK.
Depends what you want but Holiday inn, staybridge suites, embassy suits were only £100 to sleep 4 with B'fast, parking, pool, snacks. Loved the Keys, was an embassy on the side of the lagonn we used in Key west. Take of buy a snorkle

i was over there last year and was staying on daytona beach, nice little place right on the beach, £20 a night, most the cheap motels just off the motorways (interstates) have their prices on massive bill boards on the side of the motorway before you get to the exit, and don't get confused by exit numbers, they don't go up 1 2 3, they go on the mile marker, so exit 200 is 10 miles down the road from exit 190.

If you are going for 500 week look at Volucia Speedway and other small tracks in the area.
The northern folk bring their various race cars to the Daytona area to race and get set for the season.
World of Outlaw Sprints and Late Models show up .
Super Modifieds (American version of a Mallock but with a big block mounted on the left side).
If you are into aircraft there is a place called Fantasy of Flight just west of Orlando, great place.

Didn't get to the Keys, but we travelled around Florida.....staying at various places......the best ones, which by the end of our stay, we would only stay at were Holiday Inns....We stayed at the one on Daytona beach whilst we did the pilgrimage to the race-way......

More often than not, we just turned up and asked, but at the more touristy places, we phoned ahead to the next one when we were checking out......

The last one we stayed at (flew in to and out of Miami) was at Hollywood, which was on the beach, in North Miami.

Homestead is south of Miami, and the last race of the Sprint Cup in November. IIRC you should pass near there on the way to the Keys.

Here is a link to look at, and maybe get some ideas/phone numbers...
Florida Holiday Inn Linky

Have fun.......
