anyone want to finish my car for me? lol
i think i mean lol anyway.
i'm joking really.
seem to have spent a fortune on it this year, doesn't look much better. although i've got all the body work (probs the most expensive bit)
a sort of running engine, but still needs a fortune spent on it. really want it done for next year....
sorry, theres no point to this thread, except just to vent something to people who've been through it too
as you were...

Been there, oh yes
I remember going through a phase about 3/4 through the build when it seemed to swallow cash and time, but never really seemed to be moving closer to
completion.
I created a spreadsheet with all the parts, costs, jobs and a basic timeline for completion. It helped a lot and I actually found it easier to carry
on once I had a plan of campaign.
Keep going - you'll get there

ooh spreadsheet, thats a good plan! i did start something on microsoft project a few years back, it reckoned i should have finished it about 3 years
ago
i'll start another one though, i don't think the car's a HUGE way off, i think its more a case i've bought stuff which is
still in boxes in the house (ignition, electrical parts etc) and the seats and roof panel and doors maybe accounts for about £800.
i'll look out my copy of microsoft office and start again!

went out in it yesterday and all my trouble just disappeared.
i was being held up in traffic with a chav on a 3 series compact filling my entire rear view mirror. traffic cleared and i just floored it and in 1
second i was over 20mph faster than him and then he was a spec. another huge grin.
stick with it it is the best

I've had many dark days building. So many times in the last year I've just though "sod this" and considered buying an MX5 or
MG or anything like that.
It got to one stage where I was breaking more than I was sorting out.
It all sort of started falling together in the last 3 months really and its getting quite exciting nearing the IVA stage.
Well it would it the f***ing DVLA would give me a VIN number. 3 blinking weeks now.

lol ben, she's hopless! she's scared of grinders, carboard boxes, even bits of paper on the floor. remember how she ran away when you guys
were here?
besides, have you seen the state of her welding? she can't hold the torch properly in her little paws
thanks guys i think its one of those things, suddenly it will all seem to fall into place one day. a bit like when i realised the engine was only
about 3 wires away from firing (badly )
its just the thought of all the money i've spent on it, and how much more i need to spend. not been out there to even look at it since Ben was
here about 2 weeks ago. or was that last week?

Im in the same situation, I get about one weekend a month at the moment to work on it. Just ordering the steel to make up the chassis now all the
donor parts are cleaned up and away. a lot of time and money to spend.
The single best piece of dvice I ever got from this forum was not to set dates.

As I meander through year 3 of the build, I wonder what the hell I'm doing most of the time, and the car looks the same. So yes, everyone else
goes through that, except those wretched complete kit people, who seem to finish in 6 weeks. "Stay calm and carry on"
Go to the British War Museum for a poster of that one...

Yeah, my excuse is that it's too hot out or too cold (41 with the humidex today), with winter just around the corner. I also take 6 weeks
holidays where I'm nowhere near it.

I found that the build was taking too long, mainly because I was forever revisiting certain parts of the build that I was unhappy with even though
they were perfectly seviceable.
I eventually decided that this was getting me nowhere & JFDI'd the rest.
Got it thru SVA and am slowly fettling the bits that need it.

Everyone goes through it, I think...
...when I got into a rut (more times than I care to remember) I used to go out into the garage and just do SOMETHING, even if it was just a trivial 10
minute job. Little jobs add up.
