mmm.
Good luck.
£800 -> last longer than 5 years with minimum work. Not asking much then
How about a Volvo T5?
Audi A6 Avant?

Anything german or swedish, post 1995 ish so its galvanised and in the best condition he can get for the money. Ebay or autotrader would be my
favourites.
Issue is, to find one in good nick you have to look at a few, and that eats money pretty quickly, so sometimes youre better spending a couple of
hundred quid more and looking at fewer cars.

Find him a Volvo 940 and job done. £800 will get you a choice.
DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

he'd kill me if I suggested that
he's already turned down my brothers saxo (also a 1.0)
I think he'd really like an astra (the 97-04 shape one)
if he had the time (and cash) I think he'd put his own rust2rome car back on the road [he had the 323i that didn't make it this year]
