When lawyers smell easy money!
RAF ordered to pay R6,7m to UK couple
The already bankrupt Road Accident Fund will have to fork out more than R6,7-million in damages to a prominent British couple who were in a car
accident when they were on a visit to South Africa.
Jane Elliot, who is a senior associate at the world-renowned Baker and McKenzie solicitors firm in London, is due to receive more than
R6,2-million.
This is mostly for loss of income. About R200 000 of the money is towards the pain and suffering she endured. Her husband, Hugh, is due to receive
more than R86 000 for medical costs incurred when his wife was hospitalised and operated on several times.
The RAF, which is battling to pay out accident victims due to a financial crisis, was also ordered by Judge Willie van der Merwe to pay all the costs
incurred in the trial.
This can run into millions more as it includes a senior advocate's fees, their travelling to and from London for consultations and travelling
costs and accommodation for t
he Elliots when they testified in the Pretoria High Court case.
Medical experts also have to be paid by the RAF, which also has to reimburse them for their travelling expenses and accommodation costs.
The court heard that the 38-year-old Jane Elliot was a dynamic solicitor who did high-profile cases in the United Kingdom, in New York and in Paris.
Her ambition was to become a partner in her firm.
She suffered back and neck injuries when the driver of the car she was travelling in collided with another car during 1999. The accident happened at
Mooi River in KwaZulu-Natal.
Although she still suffered pain, Elliot continued to be a solicitor. But, she said she now did not take kindly to travelling or carrying documents.
With the kinda money she takes she could pay a slave to carry them for her oh did i say slave should have said min wage worker!

Can we really blame that bitch?I guess if the system allows such things than it will be taken advantage off.
The sad thing is that it's not the RAF but the ordinary men in the street who pays for these expencive jokes as i assume the RAF is funded
by the governement.
