Brick sizes

I need to brick up the back of a garage, the existing bricks are 78mm, do you think that 73mm bricks are close enough to make it up in the mortar line? 78mm bricks are harder to find cheap!

You have found the very man when it comes to bricks! Sad i know! The only bricks available now are 68mm (2 5/8" or 73mm imperials, i would suggest going to you local reclaimation yard, but propared to pay and lest £1 a brick may even be plus VAT.

Hope this helps. If you post a pic of the bricks you need to match ill let you know your options. I have my own builders merchants www.hampshirebuildingsupplies.co.uk if i can help in any way.

Edit: Bricks also vary in length i.e. 215mm 220mm not just height

Sounds like an imperial brick.
Are you measuring the brick or the coursing gauge?
Modern bricks are 215w x 102.5d x 65h. coursed at 75mm (65mm brick with mortar gap of 10mm).

You could laser cut your own from solid rock. Then you could have whatever size you like.

it is an imperial brick! Length doesnt matter cos they will need chopping in anyway, just the height im trying to match. Im measuring the brick itself, not the mortar. Would 15mm mortar work ok? Cheers!

Yeah a larger muck joint will be fine, it just wont look that nice. How many do you need (there is approx 58 bricks per m2 in imperials)? I can get off-shades in imperial, like i said either 68mm or 73mm. Could work out cheap for you?

i need 280, not sure transporting them up to leeds would be economical though? Best price i found up here is 45p inc vat (for the 73mm ones). Any red brick would do.

Also found 80mm ones at 46p+vat. I think getting the 80s would be easier than using big mortar lines. Cheers for your help!
