F1 jobs in Autosport

Just been reading Autosport. There's a few F1 jobs in there if anyone fancies it. Can't be arsed to type up pages of text so if anything sounds interesting get down to WHSmiths and join all the other blokes there reading the magazines! lol

Not mentioned but phone up HRT and you never know!

I watch how to make a super car last night. It was about maclaren and the 12c what ever its called.

there are lots of jobs going there to build the new supercar. they have to ramp up production by 4 times in as many years.

would rather be designing or testing though.

Looks like a nice environment to work in.





Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

So what's the pay like?

I would expect that since every Tom, Dick and Sally dream of working for F1 team, the demand far exceeds supply so wagers would be be low and hours long.

Anyway, I'm more than happy stocking trolleys in Tesco.

I don't know for definite but I suspect they're not fantastic. A guy on one of the other forums I'm on works at MTC and he has complained about the poor pay. I suspect some people value working for a company such as McLaren higher than they do receiving a good wage. Prestige value, great - bank balance, not so great.

From what I understand you've got to be at the very top echelons to be on good money.

Like so many industries with 'fan boys' so many people would willingly work for free that it drives the prices down.

From what I remember when I was there in 2004-2006 the guys in the gearbox team (factory, not race) were on around £10ph. This was guys who'd been there years! They all did a *lot* of o/t to make their salaries up.

But what the hell! You're working at the Mclaren Technology Centre, that's worth a lot in itself. And like when I used to work for a large mobile phone company, having Mclaren and other massive companies on your CV is the route to many better jobs later.

if the best i seem to be able to do is working in amazon picking orders til xmax, i don't think i'll be getting a job with an f1 team...

A lot of folk will be attracted to the kudos of F1 teamwork, long hours, crap pay - great for single blokes happy to live out of a bag all season.


Must be getting old, as transient lifestyles just do not appeal.

I have actually applied, there's a 'Quality Assurance' position that suited a CV prepared for such environments. So, yes (given the previous comments) I am somewhat 'old', but still happy to live out of a bag for an enjoyable job.
Given that I'm currently wiping care home resident's bottoms on the minimum wage, anything's going to beat the smell of old people laying in urine.

There's no Tesco anywhere near here, sadly... or anything much in the SW - except boarded up wet, grey, towns.

Not bad at all then really! Thats what we'd pay a graduate where I am at the moment so its inline with the rest of industry. Pipe dream for me though I think....

Would love to work for Ginetta (bit over an hours commute from me) - seems a bit more realistic although probably never happen.

When you consider what a similarly qualified graduate working in other parts of the automotive sector would earn it isn't a huge amount. One of my friends who graduated in July is back working in F1, having done his placement in F1 a couple of years back, earning £22k. Another friend in the same year, same degree, same final mark etc is working for AMG in Germany earning EU80k pa.
