Lowcost,how long?

How long will it take before the lowcost idea will be gone?
I followed the evolution in the homebuilt ultra light aircraft and amateur yacht building and i must say it's scary!

never, even if the law changes regarding home built vehicles they will still be used on the track. ps, im gonna build a boat next! seems a great idea. You read anything about the origami building technique? IIRC its brent swain's idea, on the yahoo forum. might be wrong though...

when we run out of seirras it will be bmw,s or go midi/rear engine.
the only thing that will stop us is the numpties and green cotton wool brigade, they tried to ban vehicles over 10 years old about 20 years ago, there are a lot of peeps fighting our corner and hopefully they will stop these morons from putting us in our identical green eco boxes or worse still a bus

Hmmmm. Locost boat building you say? Is there a book about building a cheap boat anywhere? Any websites you'd recommend?
Cheers

I believe there are two things that gives the true locost a better chance of surviving.
1. The recruiting base is broader, more people have the basic conditions (time, money, space, interest and so on) required to build and use a locost compared to a ultra light aircraft or a yacht..
2.Forums like this gives the builders an alternative to the forces working towards “hicost”.

Locosts will probably, over time (say 30 years) go the same way as hot rods, there will be a “right” (and very expensive) way to build one. But I hope the locost-spirit will have survived and moved on to other donors and solutions.

What do people feel is the 'locost spirit"? For me, its not just saving money, its more like looking for alternative solutions, creative thinking, and the challenge of something seemingly impossible to most.

My sentiments exactly!!

I've been sounding the "alarmed" on here for a while. What will kill ALL PERFORMANCE CARS is GPS monitoring of all cars. If you have no control of your cars acceleration and speed what will be the point of having a sports car? My "plan B" is to build an Ibis canard airplane....

Fletch.

The local Gas Board has GPS fitted to all its vans, it took the fitter/drivers about 2 days to figure how to manipulate the readings and locations without opening the box.

I think it will be a total non starter, very unpopular so whoever brought it in would never get re-elected, and the majority would be 'fixed' within days of fitting.
