OT : SafeCom "pull" printing
Any one out there know much about this - seems our office is away to convert to this. Does this mean I need to swipe card the printer and then stand
and wait while my document prints ?
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

Most likely yes.
There are various flavors and different company tag lines for the same basic principles
We call it secure printing, which means that your private and confidential documents dont land on the printer for anyone to pick up befoere you get
there and as you suggest swipe or PIN the machine.
Another of the benefits though is that it is device independant and the print job will "follow you" to the device you choose, or that is
in service rather than sitting at one that is not until you are ready for it

We've had secure printing for years.
It means you hit print whenever you're done.
Get yourself up to the printer at some point afterwards.
If there's a queue, no worries.
Your stuff isn't coming out until you release it.
Much better than someone else lifting your stuff, mixing it up, deciding it's not their's and then chucking it down in a pile with all the
other messed up prints.
It's the sensible way to have a floor with maybe 70-80 people on it able to use 2 printers with no hassle.

We've got it and it's a bit rubbish - a lot of people bypass it.
Reason is you still have to send it to a specific printer. If you get there and there is someone photocopying War and Peace, you can't just go
pick it up from another printer on the same floor.
Do still try to use it for confidential/secret information!

If you have to send it to a specific printer with your version of it (as said there are different makes and models) then that is a bit pants

We have a similar system in Uni called "follow me"
You send the print to the printer and then you can go to any university printer, even in a different building, and collect your work by just swiping
your student card. you're also not charged until your documents are actually printed.
Proves useful on rainy days, I can finish my work in one building and send it to the printers, then just walk over to the library (where i have to
hand it in) and collect it there without having to log on again. Prevents documents getting went or crunched.
Works well if set up correctly.
