ipod dock suggestions and questions

Hi all,

Well after being stuck in Macclesfield yesterday Im finally home and trying to finish off christmas shopping.

I have got the wife an ipod for xmas. Just need to get a docking station. I want a smallish compact unit with good sound. But Im a little confused by some. Heres why:

Some higher priced ones show lower speaker watt and some lower priced show higher speaker watt. What I dont get is how can a 3watt be 3 times the price of one at say 30w? Whats the watts really about??

I dont want to spend loads so bose out the question, so what can any one recommend as good quality sound and noce looking unit. Need to get it sorted Monday/ Tuesday as back up north later in week.

Thanks in advance

Andy

You can normally just ignore the power rating as a 'real' 2 or 3W RMS is plenty enough to fill a room with a comfortable level of sound. You generally get more quality with increassed price tags, so stay away from the cheap Chinese tat from eBay and get something from a manufacturer with a good reputation. As for which manufacturer to go for, that depends heavily on your personal tastes and what sort of music will be played through it? Classical benefits from very different speakers to hip-hop for example!

I bought my 12 year old son one of these last december for his birthday.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001S2PLBW/ref=asc_df_B001S2PLBW5694580?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=hydra0b-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&crea tiveASIN=B001S2PLBW

It sounds amazing, it doesnt have a radio etc but for pure sound quality & incredible bass if you put the bass boost on, its great.
It has an audio in jack too so he runs his 10" netbook through it via a lead.

Looks great, sounds great & for the money is really good value & quality.

Might be worth a look ??

logitech are faultless for the money ( my opinion )
good sound for not alot of money and charge your ipod or what ever device you put on it which is handy, or if you want to spend a bit more have a look at sonos 3 or 5

good luck
