Wii or X Box???

Wor lass has the new year blues and wants to get fit... so the Wii Fit topic comes up...

I'm not that bothered but a bit of online shoot em up might be fun...

Also, are there any other features on these beasts to enhance the TV?

Any recommendations girls n boys?

Steve

had a wii, not impressed with it one bit.
Have an Xbox and we got the Kinect at christmas. Now that is amazing. Definitely worth getting.

We only have a Wii.

I almost never touch it.

However.

As a device for watching Iplayer on your television via the free app, it's superb. Works really well at that.

I would have thought the question was Xbox / PS3.

Wii fit - will likely lose interest and the wii only used when you have people round.

Kinect - same but a lot more 1 player games to be had, plus access to multimedia over the network.

True the Wii isn't a normal console... It's more of a party game

We've just got an Xbox and had a wii for ages.

First impressions are contrary to what most people seem to think. The Wii is much easier to use and more intuitive. Accuracy with motion plus is at least as good or better than kinnect.

However we are using both for the movement based games like wii sports and kinnect adventure, not shooting and driving games. [Wii is hopeless for driving games, but I have a PC for that].

I've not found anything so far on the xbox that comes close to fencing on the wii, but haven't had the xbox for long.

Have had an Xbox and Kinect for a year now, is SUPERB. Forza 3 and 4 for me, Zumba for the missus (which she played once then realised it was too hard work!) but what is great is Kinect Sports - are great for family get-to-gethers and for keeping fit, or if you want to a relaxing game of golf, kinect sports 2 is top notch.
If you get Xbox, get a 250gb version if you plan on saving more than 1 game, the 4gb version just wont last long, it took me a week to upgrade mine to the HDD version.

Had a Wii for ages and use it quite a lot. It's a dated console now, and it's not great for FPS type games but there are some excellent games available for it. As always Nintendo wiped the floor with other consoles in terms of the playability of their games, but the hardware is a lot less powerful so you don't get HD graphics etc.

Also have an Xbox and use it much less than the Wii, mainly because I don't have the time to use it and the games I play tend to be with my 6 YO daughter on the Wii.

Nintendo will be releasing a new console later this year so probably not a great time to buy the old one. Microsoft are rumoured to be holding onto the 360 for a while yet, possibly out to 2015.

I am not a "games" person in the slightest, but we have a wii in the house, and the kids use it when they have friends round, and do some dance games, just got Zumba and all is good. My impression with the other consoles is that they are aimed at people who like gaming. There is a big difference
If you are worried about realistic graphics and want serious gaming, get an x box or ps3. If you want something fun, and intuitive, the wii is better. Even the inlaws can use it, and my mum even had a go at some of the stuff (she is in her eighties, so it really is simple to pick up)

You need to try a Kinect, nothing serious about that, and much more freedom than the wii gives!

If you have ever seen the film minority report, or Ironman, you can see that it wont be long till we control all our PCs just the way they do in sci-fi.

It's pretty good, but you need a lot more space in front of the TV than the Wii, especially for multi-player and I've found it does miss some movements occasionally, which can be frustrating. Personally I'd prefer a Wii style controller for an XBox over the Kinect.

Fair point on the space and kinect, it does work better with a deeper room. However you can get clip on lenses that give the sensor a wider angle. Not tried one but would imagine it would help a fair amount.

I just bought a Wii for Christmas, but then it was formya 5 year old, and there are more suitable games for that age group on the Wii compared to Xbox etc. Having said that I did get FIFA 2012 with it and the SD graphics aren't up too much! I'll treat myself to a 720 when they hit the shops!
