Downstream power issues broadband...

I know we have some networking experts in the house :-)

I am on a cable broadband service...

I am recording downstream power levels of 17.4 dBmV which seems a little insane given it should be closer to 0dbmV.... I am guessing here, but I think it might be causing the chronic packet loss I seem to be experiencing when using things like iPlayer and Skype etc.

Is there a simple plug in attenuator I could get that would drop the power levels down? Do you think it might solve my packet loss issue?

SNR and upstream power levels all seem within spec.

If I can buy a cheapish attentuator, would rather just get it done than try and get their engineer out etc...

All I will say is Jim Carrey missed out a lot of the real job.

10 20 or 50 meg

Upstream is ok a tad low but the downstream is overloading the front end tuner hence the packet loss

A good friend of mine used to work for them before 'Dicky' bought it all out. His memories of the job seem to be mainly composed of the number of bored housewives he used to meet. From what I can work out, he quite enjoyed the 'perks of the job'!
