Help XBOX Audio through Surround Sound SONY
Right this has been bugging me for a while but now I have connected my xbox to my laptop I want to watch video's from my pc on my tv through the
xbox with surround sound.
I have a sony lcd and sony surround system prob about 4 years old.
Watching normal TV through my sky box work fine, there's no connection from the sky box to the surround so it must go from teh scart to the tv
and then back through the scart to the surround sound box.
However when I have the xbox connected I can't get any surround sound, there's no external connection on teh back of the surround sound
box just a scart.
I've assumed there's a setting on the tv to tell it to output the audio on certain av channels but I've not found it,
Any one know what I'm on about? or can help?
Thanks
Mike

no input on the surround sound only scart! there is a front mini jack that I could use with the cable as a last resort.
The point is I can get sky in surround sound through the scart cable so why not the xbox (the only difference is xbox is through a HDMI cable).
i.e. sky box to tv via scart - tv to surround sound via scart = sky in surround sound
xbox to tv via hdmi - tv to surround sound via scart = no sound.

I'm guessing you have a cable with a scart connection on one end and a bunch of RCA connections on the other. Otherwise, it's only stereo.
Scart refers to the connection rather than the actual cable and the signal it carries (Composite, RGB etc)
HDMI Xboxes don't carry audio over HDMI, which is why they come with the adapter mangogrooveworkshop linked to above.
Does your TV have an optical input? If so, you could probably connect the Xbox to the TV with an optical cable then the tv to the surround with the
cable you have now.
Is your "surround sound" a 2.1 system? i.e. Left, Right, subwoofer?

So the Sky box connected via scart and the xbox via HDMI? most sets dont output the HDMI signal through the scart socket (usually av2) especially sony
sets there a pain in the ass cause me all kind of problems at work. I would imagine the only way is to either connect the xbox to the set with a scart
adapter on the composite cables or the component cables directly into the set via the component inputs, of course this wont be HD. Or to buy said
adapter above and connect it via an adapter to the input on the front of your surround sound system.

just a straight hdmi cable, it carrys stereo sound to the tv I just want the tv to send that through its scart to the surround sound (it wont be 5.1
but better than tv speakers)

yes the do but the audio output on my projector is of very poor quality i bypassed it with the adapter.
If he has scart input a cheap adapter scart to rca would solve that problem..

Yeah, sorry. Got muddled up. I have a pre-HDMI Xbox so I haven't paid full attention to the HDMI audio adaptor thing.
