Anybody else like flying kites?
I have always had a kite kicking about but now have the disposable to buy some more interesting stuff. Just got a new
Cody 30 for my birthday (33, Sunday just gone) and greatly enjoyed giving it it's
first outing Monday evening. Anyone else like to relax this way?
As a footnote, I found out tonight (I'd never bothered to check before) that there is an absolute limit of 60 metres (200ft) on kite flying in
the UK, with a limit of 30 metres if you live 3 miles from an airfield, because the Civil Aviation Authority class kites as aircraft!
Eek emoticon is there 'cos I got wifey to order me 200 metres of line with the kite, I attached it all and let it all out during the first
flight. As I have a glider club on me doorstep I'd better limit how high I go in future. And also living under one of the many flightlines to
R.A.F. Wittering it'd probably be a good idea to keep the altitude down as I don't want to end up at 1000ft and 500 knots bobbing along
behind a Brylcreem boy in a Harrier on final approach!

it's the first time i hear that kites fall under regulations(other than the obvious "near airport rules" .
Dont worry about those Harrier guys though cause when he hit a kite line he will be in more deep s"#t than the guy holding that line

have always fancied a go with one and if i enjoyed it i would sefinately get myself a smallish starter sized one secondhand and progress from there.
Was in Scotland a few weeks back and there were about 10 of them on off road skate boards razzing up and down the beach/seafront, looke like great
fun.

I've not got anything like that, just a couple of little kites like you use on the beach but I still like to fly them, it's just fun. I
like the wing kite as it just goes up and stays there. I watch these on winamp livestream tv and they have a load of video on their website.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I started with a small delta many years ago, progressed to a 6' flexifoil and now have a 3m2 Blade II. Great fun when i get the chance to fly it
- which is not very often at all. I've also got a homemade buggy I bought off one of the guys in the machine shop at work but i've only
ever tried it a couple of times when i've been down to devon. Have also ben meaning to have a go at kite surfing but not got round to it yet.

I'm more into the fun flying type, though I'd like a powerful quad liner at some point. I like the idea of a train of Codys' and me
in a basket travelling up the suspended line

Yup I was into kites in a big way a few years ago.
My favs were power kites. my biggest was a 7mtr. God did I get into some trouble with that.
Used to go kite buggying down on Camber sands.
I still fly my trick kites and Flexies.
Helps me relax if I've had a bad day..

I can't remember the mak/model of my quad line because it's been in the attic ever since it dragged me all the way across the field near
me (it's a big field, and I'm not small!)...
Amazing thing and had loads of hours flying/jumping, but gonna sell it when I get the balls to bring it down!

A good starting kite if you want to land board is a beamer 2.5 this is pretty cheap but will be able to pull you along easily.
This is what I learnt on and still have. When i was at uni me and 2 of my house mates clubbed together to buy a beamer 9m (or maybe 7m?) The biggest
one anyway. That was a mistake as it wasn't very good.
After the Beamer its best to move onto better kites, my housemates brought Blades but I brought a second hand S Arc 11.2 which was great fun. I also
brought a 16m F-Arc which was mad!
Unfortunataly I got really skint in my third year at uni so had to sell it all
On the plus side I sold it for what I paid for more in some cases. (I brought most of my stuff second hand as its very expensive)
All i have is the beamer 2.5 which i keep meaning to take out but never get round to it. My land board is also still around but looking sorry for
itself

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!
