How stiff is a rod end?

I am thinking of making a steadycam using a rod end as the gimbal, but I have no idea of how stiff the ball is within the casing. If loose, then the idea is a go!

Guess it depends how heavy your camera and balance weights are really.

If you are talking about a small point and shoot camera I dont think that would work. If its something a bit more bulky it might.

If it were me I would use precision cartridge bearings on the X and Y axis like this

The rod ends without the plastic liner have very little friction IME.
