O/T - Fishing Poles

I want to start going fishing again. I have got all the tack for normal rod fishing but would like to get myself a pole to use. I tried one a few years ago and enjoyed it as a nice change from the normal rod fishing.

My question to the collective is what would be the minimum length that would be good for general use? I know there are 3 main types, Match, Margin and Specimen but I want something that will do for everyday use. Maybe the odd carp etc. but nothing too specific.

Any help/advice would be good. I was looking at a couple for sale on the bay, but they are only 4-5m long and I reckon that is probably a bit too short. I have been told that a minimum of 9-11metres is best.

Thanks.

JB

I have a 10 metre fi-glass fishing pole that I use to support a wire antenna when operating my radio at a location away from home (portable operation)

I would have thought using one of these as a fishing pole (what they are designed for) would be a little cumbersome.
I also have a 7 metre pole, and this is a lot easier to handle.

The only fishing I do with these signals is fishing for distant Radio Signals

A mate of mine is currently on the Island of Tristan de Cunha (Half way between S. Africa and the Falklands, ie 1800 miles to SA!!) for a week to operate his radio. He is using a 10m Fishing pole to support a wire antenna. I have heard him already.

For the Hams amongst us he is operating as ZD9UW (Rob), you will easily find him on any DX cluster.

Finally You dont have to be a LCB'er to me a bit on the mad side!

Just my 2d's worth.
