washer driers...
why does everyone tell me they're crap? anyone had any experience of these? i dont really have space for both in my new kitchen and want a
combined one... cheers for any comments.

Had 2 at my last house, both gave trouble, but we did have 4 kids and used it every day, main prob was the motors, only lasted about 18 months. Ours
only had a 5 pound drying capacity so you had to take half out after each was, which was a pain. This was a rew years ago so maybe there better
now?

I maintained them for a living a few years back. When they are working they are ok. I have one (indesit) and have never used the drier as i have a
seperate tumble drier. Remember they dont really dry your clothes if used properly your clothes should come out if the machine warm and slightly damp
ready to be hit by the iron. I would say if you want a drier buy a seperate tumble drier.

so, i need one that can dry the full load. I would get the extended warranty anyway, must last a few years at least! i wouldnt mind one with a
condensor too...

my sister had one and it was total trouble.
i bought a washing machine about 15 years back and the lady in the showroom said dont buy a combined one.
in a combined unit the stuff needs to move about, so the load is smaller with a combined than with separate units.
i have it from several people that dyson vac cleaners are shyte as well.
no bag, but a 20 quid filter instead. duuuhhhh.
id never buy one - dyson chrges 250 quid for a bit of plastic, and sacks all his brit empolyees to save money and sends the work abroad. a$$hole of
the highest order.

the worst thing is that i bought a nice new drier recently... maybe i should just build a utility room!

Steve, surely with Mr Dyson moving production abroad so to make the product cheaper he will be able to pass on the cost savings to the consumer  I

No idea on the washer dryer, but have also heard about problems with them.
Got to defend the Dyson vac though. We have had one for at least 8 years, the motor went recently. Called Dyson, a guy came out, replaced the motor, a
wheel, the mains lead, the hose, the wand which goes inside the hose, the brush and roller, the belt. Infact, everything that may wear out was
replaced for £79, all guaranteed for 12 months. Seemed like a bargain to me.

Put up a washing line.
Do your bit for the environment, save the planet and money at the same time, you know it makes sense. Extended warranties are a rip off of the highest
order, the shop is on massive commission to sell it to you and will probably discount the goods to get you to buy the warranty as they make more
profit on it.

who's ever worked in a Comet/Currys/Dixons type place how much commission they get on them for proof!
We had a condensor dryer in our old house which was spot on, very compact and needs no ventilation. Are you sure you can't squeeze one in?

Stackable?
Do you have room for seperate front load units stacked?
The wife and I have the largest capacity home washer and dryer (seperate units) available in the U.S. and have then stacked so they only need about as
much space as a fridge.
Here in the states top load washers are most common, but I wanted a very high capacity without high water usage, so we got front loaders.

Why not build one?
After a car it should be easy, go down the local dump and get a donor, 1989-92 Bosch front loader. Give Robin Hood a call I'm sure they do
chassis you can use, saw it at the last show, comes flat packed with loads of rivets.

We recently bought a Moulinex food processor at Comet - the salesperson really tried hard to sell us an extended warranty, until I pointed out the
label on the box...
"Motor guaranteed for 12 years, everything else 3 years"
or words to that effect.
She then gave up...

I have had an Indesit washer/dryer for 5 years now - not a moments trouble and used every day.
I used to do home deliveries for comet (moonlighting) and the only brand we NEVER had to collect/replace because of faults was Indesit. BTW avoid
whirlpool/Zanussi at all costs - they were ALWAYS going wrong....

I have a Bosch - overpriced, too common but bl00dy good at everything - and it scores on greenie points! Guaranteed for 3 years parts and labour!
The money earned from the warranties goes straight into the bank, if yo ever have to make a claim (which is 70% unlikely) they take the money from the
money pool (lake more like!) and mend it. They make an absolute fortune on the balance in interest!
The manufacturer of white goods is constantly striving to improve reliability to generate repeat orders/more sales. Most guarantee for two years
now... why do we need warranties that we have to pay extra for just because our statutory rights state 1 year guarantee, even though most have two!!!
 But would they tell you that? NO!
Check the small print and ask questions. Believe little of what they are willing to tell you, and everything they don't tell you!

ive had a couple of indesit (i take time too learn sometimes) dishwashers, and they both progressive fell apart.
cheap and nasty.
also, this thread is getting way too girlie!!!!

I have one of the original DC01's and it is still working fine years later.
I used to work in Malmesbury near the Dyson factory. When sales took off Dyson applied for planning permission to extend his factory but it was turned
down by the local council. Several failed applications later he offered to build on the school site opposite (it was still being used but in a nasty
state of disrepair) and build a new purpose built school down the road, fully funded by Dyson. Guess what, turned down also. In the end he said fuck
it and moved production to the far east. I knew quite a few people that worked for Dyson and they had nothing but praise for the man and the company,
he looked after his staff well but in the end his hand was forced.
And as for £20 filters? where the hell does your sister shop, Harrods? We get them from Tesco for £6.00 for 3
7 out of 10 people suffer with hemorrhoids. Does that mean the other 3 enjoy them?

the attached picture is what i have to work with currently. as you can see, the fridge has to move! so i plan on getting a short fridge, and putting
it under the stairs, out of sight where the tumble drier currently is. The wall behind the fridge goes, the current door gets blocked, new units,
granite, extractor, hob and oven etc, spot lights and a flyover shelf etc... the only stumbling block is keeping enough units, for that purpose i need
either a washer drier, or a washing line (cheers pete, great idea...!(wrong time of year i think)), or more space. I cant be arsed putting it in the
garage...

1. sis doesnt have a dyson - someone at work does. or did. they junked it. im pretty sure ive seen dyson bits in our tesco for ballistic money...
2. perhaps mr dyson is a great guy after all and I misread him..... but was the nearest bit of free land really in china?
3. pictures of kitchens! were gonna be talking wallpaper next!
