ANPR CCTV Camera's

Where I work we need to upgrade our entrance way cctv cameras.
I've been looking at this one from cctv42 however I don't know if I would need 2 for our entrance way, to be zoomed in enough to capture number plates.

I'm also looking at this one which comes to £155inc vat. I can't see many differences except the number of leds in the picture (even has the screw cover at the bottom).

Or would anyone recommend a different camera alltogether??
Cheers Guys.
Steve

Pic of our entrance way (2 lanes of traffic), the camera would be on left of the gateway, set about 5-10m from the gate (other side)

Is it me or are they a bit misleading that they are 'ANPR', as they dont automatically recognise the numplates, they are just better quality and designed to allow easier reading od numberplates?

I believe only the authorities can officially record number plate data by this method so they are not really APNR.

They define APNR as 'automotive number plate recording'

Real APNR is Automatic Number Plate Recognition which is a world of difference

By ANPR, I don't mean to record the car reg and have it displayed as a text log, I just wish to record the number plate onto my dvr for viewing at a later date.

The cameras need to be a good quality and give a crisp image of the number plate when the car is doing 10mph.

Anyone can record or recognise number plates on an ANPR system on their property. These systems on the 'public highway' are covered by 'Justifiable Means' and SIA licensing.

Right first off don't waste your money on the examples you have shown.

If you read the first one it clearly hints at the issues of using a standard camera for this purpose.

have a look at vista anpr camera

this is the cheapest numberplate reading camera with overview that i know of ( its about £2500+vat).

Firstly you need a dedicated camera with a IR filter and IR array attached to it, this prevents any normal light from entering the camera. UK number plates are IR retro-reflective therefore if the camera can only see IR light it can clearly see the number plate but is not affected by headlights or darkness.

Now you need a second camera alongside it to enable you to see what vehicle you are looking at.

By recording both images to a DVR you then get a nice colour picture of the vehicle on one camera and just the numberplate on another.

Any manufacturer that claims you can do this with a standard camera is making false claims.

You may possibly have some luck with a Chinese import at a lower cost, but as yet i haven't seen any.
