When they start putting fallen jockeys down rather than horses I'll start betting on it. Until then i'll just stick to flat races and motorsport.

Well there is lots of conflicting opinion over the race - more and more so each year. Many critics say it should be banned many say it's just a sport - people know the risks etc - hence controversial.

I'm sure people do know the risks, but it's more the horses than the jockeys taking a risk. Myself I think it's a sh1t race, but then I don't gamble and I don't kill animals for sport.

Exactly my point - conflicting opinion. I never gamble - only on this race if I remember or am given a good tip - Why? I honestly don't know, just something I have done with my family for years.

I think it is very sad that the horses die for a sport that humans enjoy. But many would argue I support this race and don't care about the animals cruel death - which I must say is not true.

I would not miss the race if it was cancelled and I would think it's good for the animals, however - I also don't mind if it carrys on.

More controversial than the reportedly fascist but non-racist football mangers or disabled bay parking, 1st class fare dodging, band wagon jumping holier than thou politicians.

Have got that the right way round ?

Amen.

Absolute disgrace of an event!

Two horses dead so far at this years meet... and we haven't even had the main event yet!

Been discussing this elsewhere and been getting the usual 'the horses wouldn't do it if they didn't enjoy it' BS. Yeah right, like they enjoy their lungs filling with blood, their hearts pumping to the point of arrest, their muscles on fire, their joints buggered, their bones snapped and a captive-bolt being fired through their forehead!

That argument is about as stupid as folk who say that dog fighting is ok because'the dogs wouldn't do it if they didn't enjoy it'. Breed and condition an animal to do something and it will willingly walk to its death! We humans should be ashamed of ourselves!!!

as for the dead horses, coming to a tescos near you very soon...

I think horses are magnificent.
I dont think its too disimilar to dog fighting. Both do under command of shitty humans with the result that atleast one animal suffers.
The national is just a day out for fox hunters, wags, rough chicks and blokes that feel the need to walk around the track with fat cigars thinking theyre something special.
The ex's parents had race horses and that still didnt win me over.
Been to one race, fooking boring.
Much rather be at Oulton Park, or work, or watching paint dry.

Last winner of a British GP at Aintree was Jim Clark in a Lotus-Climax 25 in 1962

The first winner of a British GP at Aintree was Stirling Moss in a Mercedes

Only the best !
