what's Inverness like?
Im looking at maybe moving to Kinloss next year for work (army) but i've got a feeling its not the best place for a petrol head. I've
never been there. Whats it like outside of winter? Good roads and enough sunshine or dismal year around? Should i be strongly objecting...i like a
bit of outdoorsy stuff too which could balance things.

I don't live there but have a lot family who do so have visited many times and it's a nice city.
City centre is small but has all you need, surrounding countryside is lovely and there are plenty
of fantastic roads within easy reach.
Typical northern weather, cold winters and it goes dark earlier but the opposite in summer, light
till nearly 11.
If you like Tescos then you're laughing.....there's about four of them !
Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.................Douglas Adams.

Ahh well the roads are brilliant at low speeds, challenging when going swiftly
Like any move, and being in the army you'll have done a few, you should embrace the stunning north Scottish countryside.
A d lets not forget its narrow up there so getting coast to coast is not a big deal
How long is the posting?

Not a bad place to stay I'd say. A it warmer than the rest of the coast ( I stay farther east by about 1 hr). As for petrol head activities.
Snowman rally in Feb
Granite city rally in april ( 1 hr away unless its running to the North )
Speyside stages on yer doorstep
a few car clubs in the area
Golspie sprint and Boyndie sprints within an hours drive
Alford sprint, Boyndie go karts ( ones at elgin also).
Oh and the folk are great especially the petrol heads.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Just do it. Cracking roads to drive, superb countryside all around. Plenty to explore. The falling down juice aint bad as well!

My brother lives half-way between Inverness and Nairn - nice countryside, good driving in the locality (especially to the north) and the weather is
slightly milder than other parts of Scotland, for some reason. There is some geographical reason for that, but I can't remember what it
is...
Kinloss isn't the prettiest place - the coastal area is as flat as a pancake - and the winds can be a bit fierce there. Forres and Elgin are
quite nice towns, but Nairn is a bit desolate.
