Anyone from Hartlepool?

Any Monkey Hangers on here?

just reading this Sealcoalers being put out of busness article

Should we be feeling sorry for them or are they a public menace? I can't see the harm myself but just wondered what the truth is on this.

Cheers

M

I grew up there and sea coaling was always just one of those accepted things - they generally go out during hours that no-one in their right mind would be on the beach anyway. My Nana's neighbours did it for a living and they were real grafters at it - 7 days a week and all that.

I can understand why they might want to keep pele off the beach, but surely a better thing would have been to licence people to do it and police how vehicles are used on the beaches rather than just bandit altogether. Another case of health and safety gone mad if you ask me.

Can't see the harm myself, stupid councils. How hard would it be the have a removable bollard, a license/permit, and the council could have earned a few pennies to boot.
