"Moliceiros" boat race in Ria de Aveiro, Portugal - very beautifull

hi all

here is one extraordinary boat race, taken place is the beautifull Ria de Aveiro, Portugal.

the boats are the so called "Moliceiros" that were work boats in past times, used to transport salt from the Ria de Aveiro salt flats and the sargassum catching.

nowadays without the sail rigs and provided with modern 4-stroke outboard engines are used to sightseeing tourists in the city of Aveiro canals.

How come some of them just sat around on the shore rather than getting moving? Is it a running start like the old car races?

Probably the race starts offshore. I think the dingy racing just down the road from me works the same way as it takes ages for everyone to leave the harbour. If the race started from launch, it would be pandemonium and probably dangerous.

Dangerous pandemonium is far more fun.
