can anyone identify this subaru diff ?

A friend of mine has just bought an Impreza STI WRX diff it has the code 912A on it does anyone have any info on the ratio etc

Hmmm I can't tell from that code - the transmission code (TY-something) would be more useful. If it's from a UK car it will most likely be a 3.9, or perhaps a 4.11. If it's an import it could also be a 4.44. Depending on the year it could be a viscous or mechanical LSD.

Best thing is probably to count input/output revolutions to work out the ratio, and maybe have a look inside.

I take it Fuji's nice sticker has fallen off then?
There's usually a big sticker on the back of the diff that tells you whether it's LSD and what the ratio is.

If it's from a wagon it could also be a 3.90
