Head reconditioning
It happens to be a head for a Bedford Rascal but question would apply to any SOHC engine.
I'm cleaning up the head, decoke and valve grind etc, and found that there has been considerable oil starvation in the past. Have cleaned up
rocker shafts and rockers so they all move freely now. However, with the rockers all off, so the camshaft isn't doing any work, the camshaft
seems quite stiff and I can only just turn it with bare hands on the splined shaft at the front.
I don't suppose it should spin freely, with oil seals etc, but should it be quite easy to turn ?

is the head still as cleaned? I ask because when I had the head (SOHC, 22r) for my Toyota pickup cleaned, the shop didn't bother to remove the
cam.
when I got the head back, I could not even turn the cam and thought the head was toast. but when I pulled the bearing caps, oiled the bearings, and
re-assembled, the cam would spin freely.
see if putting some oil between the cam and its bearings helps.
simple, I know, but it helped me.

Thanks DMO.
No caps unfortunately.Camshaft bearings seem to be machined in the block. I'm going to have to pull the shaft anyway to have a look
