Tin Top probs- 1.8 205 Diesel! :D

Right, firstly this ain't my car!!!!

Friend of mine has just bought this wonderful piece of 1992 Gallic engineering marvel-dom.

5 days after getting it, it's developed a problem.... the engine won't turn off!!!

I know nothing about Diesel's (or car's in general... thanks Ned! ) so wouldn't know where to start looking but any ideas about what could be wrong? Is it just a case of ignition switch being dicky?

I owe him a few favours so it'd be nice to pay him back a bit!!!

Thanks,
James

I'll second le conrod kids diagnosis

It's on the injector pump, usually has a button on it saying STOP, that's the manual fuel cut-off. At least it was on my Cav-pumped 405

Unless it's really knacked and running on the engine oil, does it smoke at all?

Of course not , they go forever. Just replace the solonoid Make sure you get the correct one as I think there may be a choice of pumps . Decent motor factors should be able to help or a desiel specialist . Do not get from main dealers!

I had a zx 1.9 another marvell of frenchness. same engine as the the pug the 1.9 xud unit

enging and gearbox were fine everything else rattled off.

Mine used to do this from time to time. I found that it would get build up of crud under where the celanoid sealed the deisel off. which was a worry as it was after the filter.

Last Tuesday I had my come-upence for the previous weekend (see earlier post about should I have done lottery) cos my 406td taxi finally decided to have a woblble just before going into blackwall tunnel (london) when the gearbox decided to throw a bearing wobble. Still after 245900 miles I supose I shouldn't complain too much (we haven't touched / removed the gearbox at all since it came on the fleet at 90000 miles, might even have the original clutch?

But yes replace the fuel shut off valve on the injection pump (8mm nut for electical connector & I forget what size for the solenoid). If it was running on oil then revs would probably keep on rising.
