PDA with integrated GPS

I wonder if you lot can help me again

We are going abroad in the next month, and we want a pda with a gps receiver built in (don’t want to carry around a separate receiver) So where is the best place to get one from? The problem is I don’t need the software as already have tom-tom 5 and they all come with the software already installed.

Once again Thank You

Phil

I've got the Acer N50 which works quite well. The software it comes with [Destinator] isn't as good as Tom Tom though.

The Mio168 is an excellent choice as it is very small and you can slip it in a pocket when you leave the car. My one is going in the kit and I am making a dedicated slot for it. It's got Navman on it but you can easily run anything you like as it is also a functional pda.

I have just been into Staples and the sales manager said that pda’s with sat nav are a load off rubbish, and he said avoid them. Its lot of money and I don’t want to buy the wrong one and regret it later on. So what do you lot think?

Once again Thank You

Phil

I've never had a problem with mine - it crashes very occasionally but otherwise faultless. It is also a very capable pda.

I don't have a problem with mine, works a treat. It's a HP iPAQ with TomTom installed and a seperate TomTom receiver.

Oh, and it does many other things too

I have a Treo650 phone PDA with TomTom and it works very well. It also keeps diary and contacts, plays MP3s takes crappy pictures plays games does email and web browsing! Not a cheap solution but does almost everything!

A friend of mine has a Mitac Mio 168 which he is very pleased with.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I bought the Girlfriend an ACER N35, which has destinator 3 on it.

It's not perfect, some new roads aren't on there (as you'd expect).

She broke the charging connector for it and without realising still tried to use. Only problem was it then broke the connector on the PDA - half the connector was broken off

Sent it back to Acer fully expecting them to tell me where to go, but they fixed it under warranty - they did take about 3 weeks, but didn't charge a thing.

Edit: She's had about 6 months and is more than happy - but....she hasn't used anyother, so can't compare.

I got it on the recommendation of a friend.

If your pda has bluetooth I can recommend this!

Fortuna BT GPS

Been using mine for a couple of years with TomTom and Memory map (ordnance survey map software...try getting that kinda detail from an all in one gps!) I use it off road on my enduro bike and in the car or on the road bike and it works great, tiny too...come with a neck strap or you can stick it in your pocket/bag. Battery lasts all day, its the same as a nokia battetry so you can buy extras dead cheap if you want to go for a few days and dont want to charge it. Bluetooth means you dont have to plug it in to the pda, it works wirelessly

Check on ebay, there are usualy quite a few new ones going

Hope it helps
