Brands Hatch BTCC Monday 5/5/03
Just wanted to have a moan.
Was looking forward to going to above with wife and sprogs.
Just found out ticket price
£40 each for me and her, plus £15 paddock pass, +£? grandstand seat + food etc .
Not much change from £150.
Bloody ridiculous.
Shan't be going now.

I will be going.
Bear in mind this isnt a normal BTCC round - it is a round of the american CART series with a btcc round tacked on to it.
I think btcc is usually about 20 quid or so?
The trackside standups are about 40 quid and the stand seats are 55 quid.
That compares with silverstone at approx 100 and 150 quid last time I looked a year or two ago.
I went to the first two years runnings at Corby Rockingham oval, and it was all seating and cost between 50 - 110 for a decent seat.
A screaming bargain compared to F1.
I went to my first premiership match at Aston Villa vs Blackburn, to provide a USA visitor with some brit entertainment. Thats 28 quid a ticket -
every two weeks if you are a fan with no season ticket.
Arsenal's prices are 58 quid.
Its the cost of sporting entertainment nowadays!
What got me was I went to silverstone F1 5 times in the 90s and the amount of people not watching the race by walking around or laying on their backs
looking at the sky having spent 90 quid to enter.

I know it's not racing but you can get general admission to silverstone to watch the f1 practising on the friday of the gp for about £35 each,
much better value, might be going myself.
For good value admission why not go to a 750mc race meeting?
beware, I've got yellow skin

Totally agree abot visibility at silvertstone.
The best UK race I saw was at donnington in 1993 when senna won. I stood just past starkeys bar, and you could see at least half the track. Donny
beats the crap out of 'stone.

Chaps,
Agree GP prices ludicrous. That, I think, is to keep out the rabble:-)
Wouldn't go to one of them anyway - far to dull. Though did go to the European GP in 1985(?) at Brands. Also did Le Mans that year.
Talking of which, general admission tickets for Le Mans £40 this year for 24 hours racing - I'd be quite happy to give Brands £20-25 for the
BTCC (ie half the time!).
Goodwood FoS on Fri 11/7 is about a tenner.
More like it!!
Steve, agree yr comments about people paying all that money, and not watching.
Went to Goodwood a couple of years ago and bumped into some people I work with who been given a corporate day out - they asked me where the track
was!! Muppets
Football stadium holds approx 40,000 - Brands can cater for 1/4 million (in the GP days), and it's not as if they've got big development
costs - place has been there best part of a 100 years!!
Still think BTCC ticket prices too much and will write to complain!! If they'd charge £25 we'd have gone, so for the two of us (+kids)
they'd have got 50 quid. As it stands, they get nowt!

But Simon, the thing is the ticket prices reflect its the UK round of the CART series.
These are american versions of F1 cars. They are bigger and faster and do over 240mph on an oval. Its a better spectacle than F1 and if you can get
the extra ticket money, well worth seeing!
The BTCC bit is just an add on.
They bought the race rights from Rockingham after they couldnt afford to host it.

Steve,
Unfortunately for me, the BTCC was the only reason to go.
Wanted to go and give a bit of support to Anthony Reid and Warren Hughes. Reckon they'll win both races between them!!
Never mind, I don't doubt MG will have a stand at Goodwood, so I'll have to buy me t-shirt/baseball cap there instead!

Just thought I'd let anyone who's interested know, that the prices for rounds 15/16 at Brands on 24/25 Aug are:
£20 in advance
£25 on the day
Much more like it.
Definately be there for that!!

yep.
cos you will be missing a 165 lap CART race, which was reflected in the ticket price. That race was held in Corby last year and cost minimum of 50
quid as well, and no backup race - ie the btcc
As it was, I paid 40 quid an adult, plus 10 extra for a seat. My 15 year old got in free, with 10 for a seat. 17 year old paid for himself!
wasnt that cheap, but for the money you got
porche supercup race
first bttc round
CART race
Second btcc round
Some renault race (buggered oof by then)
fairly entertaining day.
