Daily driver service cost
Just phoned the dealer for a 30,000 mile service on my subaru WRX... £450! Is it just me or is that a tad much. I then phoned the next closest
dealer and got quotted £360.
Considering getting a local garage to do it, or doing it myself as I used to. Anythoughts is an FSH and a dealer one worth this, considering am not
looking to change my car for another 5 years.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Adrian

At 30k miles, the cars probably still under the manufacturer's warranty isn't it?
If so I would get it serviced by a Subaru dealer so as not to invalidate the warranty.
If not then I would look for an independant Subaru specialist who can do the work for a more reasonable rate. Do you visit the Scooby owners forum?
They may be able to suggest someone in your area.

Mum's A-Class cost £500 for her last service (3 year I think)!!!
Are you a Mac user or a retard?

I thought they changed the law so you can get it serviced at a proper garage (not dealer) without voiding the warranty

according to european law, if you use a garage that is MOT/VAT registered, they follow the manufacturers service schedule and use genuine parts, then
your warranty has to be honoured.
Time to find an independent with a good reputation

I recently had mine serviced by a Italian performance car specialist. They cost half the price a dealer wanted and did twice as good a job......
The car is 3 years old and had been dealer
serviced from new (not by me). When the guys went to do the 36000 service they found that the oil filter was the original fitted at manufacture!
(admittedly it is a bitch to change on my car but that is no excuse for a dealer to just not bother! )
BTW the dealer wanter £499 + VAT not including the price of filters/oil etc and wasn't even going to change the plugs for that! so I think
the Subaru price sounds OK! - for a dealer... there must be a subaru specialist garage around though!

Dave - That sounds like a ripe case for trading standards to me.
Another example of main dealer behaviour...
A guy at work recently had his 2 yr old Fiat Punto serviced by the local Fiat Dealer. Dealers calls him to say that a spark plug has snapped off
leaving the reamins in the cylinder head. The says they may have to remove the head to rectify it and he will be liable for the associated parts and
labour
Rob tells them to fook-off and sort it out pronto and that he will pay or the cost of the service only. Fiat dealer whinges and whines about how much
work is involved. Rob calls local trading standards and Fiat UK (stating that he has called trading standards) and lo-and-behold, the dealer calls
him back and says "no problem Mr Watson, the car will be repaired, serviced and valletted at no cost whatsoever to you. It will be ready for
you to collect tomorrow lunchtime with our compliments"
Feckers will always try it on won't they!

Got to keep in mind that for many cars these days 30k miles is the first real service apart from pdi and one oil change service the bonnet might not
even have been opened.
Spark plugs these days can be 40 quid a set at dealer prices, synthetic oil 40 quid, cabin filter 30 quid, air & oil filters 40 quid for the pair.
Then the dealer has to cover his cost for diagnostic equipment --- all adds up.

As I said - the quoted price did NOT include oil/filters etc....

Phoned subaru customer services to query price difference. They shrugged their shoulders and said dealers can charge what they want. They do however
say they set the time for services. So the £90 difference is for the hourly rate.
Ho Hum. Im on holiday next week, so £40 for fuel, a quick blast to inverness, get me car serviced, visit my mum, a day out for the dog and I save
myself £50.
Inclined to put it to the dealer as you say above, if needs anything on waranty or snap sparkplugs Im in a better position to say please fix it at no
extra cost to me. Next year I'll explore other avenues... (sell it and get a high miles A8 4.2 quattro sport )
Thanks

by coincidence I went to get some new tyres on the tin top this morning and the guy in front of me was in an A8 4.2 quattro - when the guy at the desk
asked the current mileage the reply was 217,000 I had a look at it when I went back out to the fitting bay - it looked fresh as a daisy to me
inside and out.
It's certainly a BIG car

Well that might be what your typical main-stealer would charge someone stupid enough to buy those bits from them, but that is certainly not what they
cost!!
