All depends what you use it for - general commuting or loads of miles?
Loads of miles/have kids - Passat
General commuting/no kids - A3

Hate the handbrake (now a button) on the new Passat.
Our company cars are Passats, very nice cars. Never been in an A3, so I'd stick with what I know and say opt out and run your own car

Unless 20K a year is mostly business I'd stick with the co car. I do around 25K most of which is private travelling to and from and shuttling
kids around and no way could I make a PCP scheme or allowance work.
Passatt's are OK but too big and cumbersome for me.
A3 is nice but Audi are overpriced compared to VW.
I'd go for the new Bora or Seat Leon with the most powerful TDi engine they do.
My last car was 150 BHP Bora and a great car. 0-60 in 9.5 and 45-50mpg.
Having said that I currently have a Civic Cdti which is supposed to be faster and lighter than the Bora but returns 55-60mpg standard. If you can get
past the wacko looks and design it's a good and very well designed car. Does seem to roll more than the Bora but then the VW had the sports
suspension pack and 17" 225's
My two peneth anyway.

I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

the a3s arent that bad they arent selling too well so you cant get discounts on them to take them to golf levels. my dad got a 2 week old demonstrator
for £3k off list and less than the equivalent golf.
they are nice cars but dont get the 18" wheels as they completely ruin the ride quality (way to stiff)

Its list price which makes a diff on company car tax though, so you don't want an overpriced car.
