Tin Top Tyres. What to buy?
Hi All.
I bought an Audi A3 diesel a year ago that was fitted with a brand new set of Bridgestone Potenza 040's (225x45x17).
I've done 11k miles on them and the fronts are now knackered.
Although the traction control has clicked in on the odd occasion in the main I drive relatively steady.
I expected them to last a wee bit longer than they have and thought I'd try something else, but what?
They just scraped through the MOT last week, with an advisory, and the garage owner suggested Pirelli P Zero's.
He said he's used Potenza's on his Porch (flash git) but found P Zero's lasted longer.
I've always thought Pirelli were a soft tyre anyway but haven't used them for years.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Cheers,
Paul G

Had a pair of P Zeroes on the back of my MR2 Turbo and they outlasted just about everything else I've tried (got nearly 10,000 miles out of
them, worst ever was about 7000).
Goodyear Eagle F1's are a very good all round tyre, though not the longest lasting.
Unfortunately diseasals do tend to scrub front tyres at quite rate due to the combination of high torque and heavy engine.

I have some Bridgestone Turanza tyres on my Skoda Octavia 2.0Ltr Diesel (similar chassis) the fronts lasted 40K miles on the front, rears are still on
but will need replacing within the next few thousand miles. The fronts have been replaced by Pirelli P6000 and they are SHITE. No grip in dry or wet
compared to the former tyres. As a company decision (not mine). Given the choice I would have replaced with Continental as they have been brilliant on
every car I have fitted them to.
I cover approximately 1500 miles/week, I drive steady tending not to accelerate fast. Mostly motorway driving so mileage does seem high compared to
most...

Go with the 6000s they are real rubbish...I ended up getting Michelin Primacy, they are expensive but test show them to last 30-40% longer and have
just as good grip as anything else at the same price....You get what you pay for.

I've just had a set of pirrelli's thrown on my Volvo a couple of weeks ago - Kwikfit are (were) currently having a 25% discount on all
pirrelli tyres. £125 off a set of four tyres - good enough for me!

Thanks for the info so far.
Just an add on question, the 040 bit of Potenza 040...
Is that the compound? because there's also an 050.
Could this be a harder (or softer) tyre?
thanks

put the rears on the front and the fronts on the rear and you'll get a few more miles out of the ones you have at the moment...
Thanks
