First time for everything....
Remember Clarkson and co. trying to 'kill' a Toyata Hilux...
Well I own a Toyota Surf, essentially a full body Hilux with all the toys.
Its been a little neglected so decided to treat it to an oil and filter change yesterday, as the engine oil pressure was down a bit and there were a
few little rattles...well its a diesel, they all rattle.
After said oil change I started her up, drove out the drive, turned left. Rattle became a knock....
Hmmm, I thinks, dont sound too clever... Knock becomes louder....
Hmmm, I thinks, sounds as though its about to throw a rod....
Knock becomes a crunch, engine stops, I opens the door and sees lumps of crank case on the road.....DOH!
Dont you hate it when you're diagnostics are so accurate.
Toyotas may be super tough and reliable, but be wary of performing maintenance, the shock can kill 'em
John, looking for a new motor.
The reckless man may not live as long......
But the cautious man does not live at all.....

heads are normally first to go on the 2.4 td so you should find a decent short block for not too much money, pre 97 heads are getting hard to find now
