When I had my roadster there was a guy in salsbury who had put a bike engine in. He had detachable drag wheels for when he was seriously driving.
One of the most popular mods to smarts (not for2) seems to be using an electronic clutch control from china so you get more control by using a pedal. tbh i liked tiptonic when i realised i had to stop accelarating!

Moding smarts is probably more so than late 80s essex boy racers escorts. I've seen furry ones, tons of paint jobs, various gullwing doors etc.

Theres probably 10 maybe more companies who solely mod smarts.

What my Smart Roadster always needed was a GSXR1000 engine putting into it to give it the performance to match it's handling and looks. I think Z Cars did one.

I so want the new whatever it will be called. But dont like the 'eyes'. Might have to find someoneto manufacture a roadster body pack!!
Worst thing as I said above about the roadster was the clutch. Best thing, either my police certifacate on my driving (got 3 stars! apartently only need 9 more for a suprise!) or the overwhelming urge to drive under an artic (although did drive under car park barriers!)

That makes a lot of sense to me ..... in warped kind of way I hired a Smart when I was in Cyprus and was impressed with the handling - always wondered what a bigger engine would do performance wise.

I am not so sure about handling! remember Stig on Top Gear having serious problems keeping it on circuit never mind on the line when driving a standard one!

These chaps bought the idea from Z-cars.

Look at doing one, look quite impressive.

That was the Fortwo (egg on wheels) - the roaqdster has handling almost the same as my Elise did.

Had a Brabus Roadster for ayear, brilliant car but just sold it, sumtimes in the wet it scared me a bit as twice when i was pushin it as a few times round, roundabouts, it down changed automatically and the back end comes out- and you cant stop it.

fun though but stupid design flaw if you aint a good driver .

I used to get frustrated when the 'box decided to downshift and rocket you forward, even when driving around town.

Worse - by 'box couldn't decide between 5th and 6th gear when driving at 60mph. That led to some frustrating motorway journeys!

Good car, but glad I replaced it with a Volvo S60 D5 and my MK underway!

Had a falppy moment when i left my old roadster in auto in the wet. HAd to cross a roundabout with lots of reverse camber as it changed down. I was facing the chevrons almost instantly. Two simple solutions... dont drive in auto much, and dont brake for roundabouts.

I hear the 'kimber' not only has a manual gearbox but something to do with two manual boxes. Meant to speed up gear changes.
