Any SMART experts about?
Bad week last week>>>> Two of our cars have been crashed into by a six month old PUG and with the van I smacked into those pesky
carpark poles tearing up the front wing.
Need a small car to replace the other so was looking at smarts.....found one needing a head gasket replaced Is it hard to do? Recon engines near
Rotherham are 600 quid...+- .
LOVE THEM OR HATE EM MARMITE

If you are going to change the engine, stick a bike engine in!

I can get you details of a chap who will know.
The fella that I bought my pair of 126's off at the weekend also has a pair of smarts (a city and a roadster) as well as loads of other
interesting small cars.
He commented that the very tidy looking smart city that he had only set him back £900, which surprised me!!! Apparently it was a trade-in at his local
dealership.

Not so much a bike mantra, but it will fit and scare the pants off you!
There are some videos on youtube with a smart with 1100 gsxr.
To say it is quick, is an understatement!

I've owned two smarts and am a member of the smart club. I've never heard of a head gasket failure.
Smart dealers are widely know not to repair engines but only replce them as a whole. with most smarts that fail, the turbo is the bit that goes.
I've seen pictures of a melted block too.
The top of the engine is easy access from the boot of the car but there isn't a lot of room in the engine bay. The rear panel just unbolts so
access is prety good. The whole rear subframe can supposedly be dropped out with just 4 bolts.

I love 'em. Wifey's got one, an early lefty uk model. The only problem is parking at Tescos - you have to take a ticket - she's on
the wrong side, so shops at Sainsburys!
They go quite well, have 6 gears, you can fit a weeks camping stuff in one, do nearly 60mpg, 85mph (but you can de restrict them), glass roof, air
con, ABS, EBD, Traction control - the lot!

I cant think of a more embarrassing way to die. the smarts not exactly known for its handling the last thing it needs is more power.
Good practical city cars i guess. i love how you can park them sideways! but i wouldn't have one. how the smart roadster coupe is a different
story. THAT is a car that would do well with a tuned hayabusa engine

Granted, they are a little bit understeery with the narrow 145 section tyres on the front, but they're not as bad as you may think - they have
quite a low c of g - all mechanicals below floor level, they're VERY safe due to the steel 'tridion' construction, they have twin
airbags.
I'd rather have a crash is a Smart than a Corsa, Lupo, Ka etc.

Its a replacement car for the the trip to uni five miles down the town. But yes the bike engine will happen in the next one.
The engines are cheapish so I im not worried there. Just have to tow it back if I get it.
The youngster starts driving this year so we looked at insurance group 1 to 3 less than 37 quid a month. The larger cars were a whopping 1800 quid for
her first year so both are students that funny money was ruled out. besides parking at the uni is a ball a***e and they can park in the spot thats
always to small for normal cars...

There was a guy who'd done £2k+ worth of damage to his car on a car park pole (one of the low ones) in the body shop when I took my wifes car in
for a new bumper. Apparently the drive through space wasn't...

Hi from a Smart based nutter....the GSXR smartsuki is available from County Motors in Cheltenham...conversion is about £9k onto the price of a car!
Makes it very entertaining to drive! Handling is not a problem, I have a smart with a normal engine (remapped, big turbo etc about 90bhp)...which has
lowered suspension & 205 tyres front & rear....it DOES go round corners!!!

Saw you post over on the smart forum, you can pick up for2's for couple of K's in running state. fun to drive easy to modify all panels
can be swapped in a morning if you get bored of the colour, dents push back out, cheap and economical to run recon engines can be purchased around
£700. Ideal student runaround. Coolfarts for2 is an excellent example of what can be done. If you want a bit of fun the roadster is the one to go for
remap it, performance parts and you can get close to the indy with a roof, reverse and sound system : ) Downside expensive to insure if your a
student.
Suggest independent dealers for service etc much cheaper than Mercedes and better service.
