Friday Morning Poll
Pictured left my 1989 Mk2 Scirocco currently parked up in the dry.
Do I?
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

Except instead of 2L turbo why not put in the nice Audi or Seat cupra 20V engine??? Would be an awesome track weapon! Oli.

Don't sell it, you'd probably regret it later. From the picture it looks a very tidy car, you'll have trouble finding another decent
one for a good price these days. I'm not a concours fan so i'd have to say track it, although the new 2.0 FSI engine is probably a bit too
expensive at the mo for me. I'd go with either a 20v if you really want a turbo, my personal choice would be a 2.0 16v though
If it wasn't for the fact that i've already got a garage full of crap I need rid of before my chassis arrives in a fortnight (and that the
mrs would shout at me) I'd offer to take it off your hands, i'd love a 'rocco as a runabout

I, too, would RWD it with a duratec or similar. That would be soooooo much fun

I used to have a MK2 as well. Saw one recently and was tempted to go down the conversion route.
I would keep it road legal and useable, but upgrade the mechanicals, engine, brakes etc.

How about turning to the dark side, and whacking a nice chunky VW TDi engine in there....
Cheers

Now that's an idea
How about a RWD conversion to a mid mounted 2.5 or 3.0 V6 TDI using an Audi transmission?
Nice light RWD car with lashings of turbo torque
Having said that it does look like a tidy car and they are getting pretty scarce, so personally I'd keep it standard and loved.

Thanks for the ideas guys.
Track car it is although I'll try to keep it road legal so I can drive it to Oulton Park & back.
RWD conversion is a bit daunting so I need to consider a "direct" replacement for FWD.
People so the Audi TT 1.8 T fits and I have seen VR6 conversions but what do peeps thinks will fit with minimal effort?
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

Pretty much any VAG four banger will physically go in with very minimal effort, you might have to move one of the engine mounts (mk2 'rocco has
pretty much the same front end as a mk1 golf?). If you go for a K-Jet engine (say a 16v) then the wiring etc is pretty trivial as well. Other 4 cyl
engines aren't too much more hassle, the 20v engines just need a bit more thought about the plumbing and the loom, you either need to use the
ECU keys and instrument panel from the donor to get around the immobiliser, or go for a standalone ECU.
I don't know how easy the VR6 conversion is in a 'rocco, I do know you don't see that many in mk1 golfs though so it might not be
straightforward. I know in a mk2 golf basically you just take the whole front end from your VR6 donor (engine, box, subframe, front suspension if you
feel like it) and whap the whole lot in, taking a moment to 'relieve' the bulkhead and one chassis leg slightly with a big hammer.
Don't think you can just swap the subframe in the 'rocco though?

the car looks straight and tidy in the photo, if so id deffo leave as is, and just look after it. If you want to track one, buy a battered one
