I got a new van a couple of months ago & the logbook didnt come back so I called them, they checked it out there & then & they never got
it (aint the Royal Mail great). They said just send an application in with the green section & there would be no charge.
Very helpful & no awkward questions.
Best to ring early in the day to avoid being on hold for ages though.

try the dvla website , there is a section where you can check to see when the car tax is due and whether it is taxed or sorned, i think it says when
last change of ownership was, IIRC that is,
give it a try.

Have you got the "new keepers slip" ?
Send it off with a V62 too request a log book, I just had the same, bought a car 3 months ago, the seller who now has too post the log book
hadn't, got log book within a week.
Form available from post office.
