Golf Gti Mk4 glove compartment door
I'm currently minding my daughter's VW Golf Gti Mk 4 while she's off swanning round the world. Damn thing's a PITA!
The latest hassle is the lock mechanism for the glove compartment - first it was jammed shut then, after a liberal dose of smacking it with a fist,
it's now permanently unlocked and won't stay shut - the bolt mechanism's porked. Went to the local VW dealer, who tells me that it
happens a lot, and will cost £50.60p for a new door, plus £94.50 labour, all plus VAT.
Has anyone else had to change one of these doors? Or does someone have a Haynes manual for a Mk4 Golf - and does it describe this door mechanism? I
can see what I believe to be the fixing screws, but I would like to know about any gotchas before I start!
cheers,
David

David,
I think they saw you coming, the vw dealer I had to go to lately only charge £90 per hour labour + vat
ps I have a bora manual in the boot which has the same interior if you don't get other leads I can have a look...

Glovebox
It's a "feature" on MK4 Golf's....
It's not happened to mine yet but it's on the cards as they say.
This may help you!
Glovebox help!

Eeek!
That looks like a lot of fiddly work - trust VW to hide 1 screw so well that you have to take the entire centre console out to change the glove
compartment door!
But thanks - that's been bookmarked - it may prove to be extremely useful.

It's an improvement on the mk2 though. I swear when they built the mk2's they would hang the glovebox from the ceiling of the factory and
then assemble the entire car around it. You have to take the whole dash off to get the glovebox out on a mk2, and even then it's not guaranteed
to come quietly...
