news: First Coupé from Donkervoort
First Coupé from Donkervoort
The Dutch website www.autotelegraaf.nl reported that the dutch car builder Donkervoort in 2007 comes with a coupe version of its cars. The Donkervoort
D8 Gt wil make its debuut at the Salon Genéve in March 2007.
The car has a hardtop that is part of the structure of the car. This means it wil be a “Tin top version with a roof made of two layers of carbon and
has an incorporated role cage. Donkervoort claims that the D8 GT has the best cornering steering and suspension the car builder ever made. The weight
has been valued on 650 kg, that is 20 kg heavier than the roadster. But better air capacitance will still improve its performances. The strongest
motorized D8 GT will undoubtedly break through 250 km/u- limit. And accelerate from zero to hunderd km/h in not more than 4 seconden. The Gt is 30 cm
longer than a ordinary D8 en brings the total length up to 3, 71 meter. The wheelbase has remained unchanged 2.30 meter, but the track wide has been
made wider both front and rear, successively with 8 cm and 4 cm. Also special shock absorbers and new front wheel suspension have been developed.
Standard has the coupe 17 inch wheels. Beside the higher turning speeds of the D8 GT the manufacturer claimt also a larger active security, because
the model develops more “downforce” than the D8-roadster. That comes partly by the roof, but also because the floor of the car that has been
concluded with carbon sandwichplate at the full length. A diffuser under the rearend of the car generated uplift so the car will stick on the road.
The D8 GT becomes deliverable with 180 pk, 210 pk and 270 pk Audi Turbo engines. Donkervoort plant a maximum production of 50 GT's per year, for
a still unknown price.

Do you think they'll keep adding to the seven architecture until they have a "normal" car?

A picture of this has been posted before as it is/was in the making and I think it looks pretty nice though a little bit rice if you know what I mean?
A bit plasticcy. I do like the Donkervoort stuff though so a bit biased.

Somehow I doubt this car will ever be regarded as normal

When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box

but didn't they already have a hard top and gull wings?
So they've just secured the top??
or am I missing something here. doesn't seem like much of a development.
ok I'm sure they may have changed the chassis to take into account the structural implications of the fixed roof. just seems........
