Not much of a surprise to be honest, I know a few mechanics, and every one of them will admit (in private!) to taking customers cars out for a good
thrashing when they get the chance, it's one of the reasons I try to never, either use a garage, or leave my car without being there myself!
Feel sorry for the guy in question though, imagine spending years building a car only for it to be wrecked by a muppet
Cheers

it happens - even by reputable (??!!)dealers - Audi wrote off my A3; not a patch on the GTM but they still had to come up with £10,000+
It took a while though but it didn't cost me anything and I had a loan car (Seat Leon Cupra Vt20) until it was settled - in fact, the loan was so
good I bought one with the money

Heres a tip.
Write the current mileage on a post-it note, stick this in view on the dash somewhere. Then its obvious to the mechanics that you know the mileage of
the car when it was dropped off. So they can't casually take it for a jolly.
I usually just re-set the trip meter, but this can easily be re-set.

Thats a good tip!
As my tintops have started to get more exotic I do worry about leaving them at garages, I do pretty much all the work myself, but you cant avoid
leaving it there for an MOT.
As for the GTM it doesnt look like he built it himself as he one of the reasons he took it to the garage was to fix the indicator.
Anyway, he seems quite calm about it, best way to be I guess, I would be fuming!

There are an awful lot of 'hang him' , get the plods, sue them, etc comments on there...
The truth is....
- The police HAVE to be involved. The vehicle driver has been injured and under the Road Traffic Act it has to be reported. Perhaps publishing the
mechanics statement regarding to the accident would be a good start.
- They should also be interviewing the owner as to ascertain the vehicles condition prior to the accident.
- The garage ARE liable. If you leave your vehicle for service etc they must take due care - otherwise you can prosecute for Criminal Damage etc
amongst other things.
- The garage or their insurer are only liable to replace the vehicle with the same or similar. Unless it was brand new (not possible due to MoT
comment) he is entitled to have it replaced only. No use putting GTMs price list up - its not going to happen !
- If it is his daily driver, he is entitled to a courtesy car/loan car. If not, its unlikely as he is not inconvenience.
These things do happen, and its galling when they do. However, there is no background to this story, so its hard to make a proper comment on who is to
blame.
And if it was my car...?? I'd kill him !!
Cheers

Something similar happened to a mate of mine years ago. Didn't wreck his car, but it came back from the garage with another 600 miles on the
clock and full of fag ends. It turned out that one of the mechanics had decided to take his car to London for the w/e!
I hope this tosser has the book thrown at him.

It's nice to see a dealer using Fram air filters and not genuine Audi!

Happened to me some years ago. Local garage dropped it off the ramp from full height onto its side when a post screw failed - wrote it off, garage was
OK (he readily admitted liability and I still use them) but I ended up having a monumental struggle to get half decent money out of their insurers,
which just happened to be my insurers as well! Left me with a decidedly tainted view of insurance companies for trying to get one over on me when it
was clearly their client's fault. Good luck to that guy - his problems have prob. only just started. Cheers, Pewe.

Thing is we do have to take the car out on most occasions to see if we cured the fault. Some times cars get damaged when it really isnt our fault, but
thats what trade insurance is for. If he was driving like a nob, the garage should pay the cos tof the car and the bloke should pay the garage back.

In fact i just read the thread. For a start he looks like i jumped up litttle t**t 12 year old who's rich dad bought him the car so he shouldnt
be driving it anyway. But thats personal so ignore that. But all the muppets saying "Did you give him permission to drive the car"? What
stupidity. How would it get in the garage etc without being driven? Nobbers.
