'E' Sierra - what year?

A simple question - what year is an 'E' registration?

Reason for asking? I was looking in my Haynes manual to see how much oil to put in my type 'N' gearbox. Apparently, pre-1987 was one quantity, post-1987 was another.

I'll be putting the oil in through a filler hole in the top cover, so I have to get the amount correct!

cheers,

David

It would have to be an E reg wouldn't it!

E registration ran from (wait for it)

01 August 1987 to 31 July 1988

So it's Probably the later one, but it's close.

HTH

Cheers

Chris

Bloody Hell Mark that's useful!

On a similar, sort of related thing, a mate of mine's got a ford based special from the early fifties, and he needs to know the year of manufacturer of the engine, a sidevalve, to help him get an age related plate.

Any idea how he could get the age of the engine?

Cheers

Chris

50's special

Try the FAIRTHORPE car club, Falcon Caribbean registrar, ROB DANIELS if my memory serves me well. He will know the year of manufacture, I'm sure.

Unfortunately I bought the gearbox separate from the car, so no VIN plate.

Mark, I tried this with my new BMW and it's got 6 rings, which would mean it's 6 years old, but it's supposed to be new, I think I've been conned, I tried to take it back to the dealship to ask them about this, but the car wouldn't go, do you know why?
