I hate spammers
What is it with spammers. One of the domains I use has been used by a spammer for sending out emails - I have had this before and typically get 2-300
emails when it has happened all along the lines of "returned mail..."
Connected outlook today and it said downloading message .. of 10500 - 250mb! About 3 hours later I think it is about half way through them. At least I
have broadband - would take all month on a dial up, if you could download them quicker than they are probably coming in.
I know that lots of these emails rely on people clicking through to websites rather than replying to emails, but why do I have to receive the ones
which haven't worked? How many do you have to send out to get over 10000 returned?

Hi,
I don't know which email client you are using but if you are using Thunderbird then you can set up a filter which will actually delete the
emails before they are downloaded. You might be able to do the same with the likes of Outlook Express but I'm not sure.
If you do this then you can get through them much faster without wasting so much bandwidth and if you choose the filter criteria carefully then the
risk of losing genuine emails is virtually zero. I would tend to use the subject line using keywords like
Postmaster or Mailer Daemon.
Let me know if you want details of how to do it.
I agree though, it really is a pain in the a$$! I have to keep changing the email address I publish on this forum because after a while I start to get
spam. Once I've set up the new address (usually just add a suffix number and increment) I then block the old address with a mail rule. Simple
and effective.
Cheers,
Craig.

I had a dose of this lately.
As I'm with Orange I logged onto the webmail and deleted them at the server.
Just a thought

The very strange thing with these mesages are that although they appear to be going to variations of an email address - all starting with debrei then
a few other letters before the @ (although some coming through now have other random letters completely which is more normal) but they are actually
all coming in via a specific email address - andrew@. When I look at the internet headers of the messages the email address they are coming in to is
shown in the header.
The really strange one is that I received one very short email (a few random letters in the subject and the body) from one of the other email
addresses which specifically exist on the account (there are only 5 in total) looking like it came from that person, but the surname was mis-spelt.
Almost looks like it is deliberate.
Unfortunately there is a problem with the way the account has been set up which means the online email service isn't working, and until the box
is empty the person sorting the hosting is going to struggle to sort it out apparently.
Down to the last thousand or so to receive now!

That could be your ISP/mail provider forwarding the catch-all mails to your 'admin' mail address

Unfortunately not - we don't have a "catch all email address", I checked with the host this morning. The email address they are
actually being received by shows up in the header, a bit like it has been hidden in there deliberatley. Finally received them all for now, no doubt
there will be another large number in the morning.
