Vegetable cannon

has anyone on here made one? Somebody must have. Just wondering where to get a 3" to 1.5" ABS pipe reducer, and a 3" threaded end cap. I'm struggling to find one, no one has heard of such reducers, but the people state side who have built these all use them.
Any advice on such devices?

I made one that uses compressed air by welding a length of 40mm steel tube to an old CO2 cylinder

For your fittings try BSS (02920 432400), they'll have a branch local to you.

Is this like the thing they used on Mythbusters to fire chickens at plane windows? I've built a small scale thing that we use at work to blow tubeless tires on with. I used a lorry air tank ( about 10-12 litres), a 1" ball valve & an outlet pipe from 1 1/4" exhaust tube.
For a laugh we put a plastic 1/2 gallon bucket over the end & it threw it 50 feet!
Not tried it on veg yet but now you've put the idea in my head...

I have a friend who has a very successful orange cannon that you open the end of, spray in some cheap deodourant / hairspray, screw the end back on then hit the piezo ignition.

Serious boom. Get very strange looks in the fruit and veg aisle of Tesco though with an offcut of drainpipe putting those that are a snug fit in his basket and putting the others back

I looked into making this sort of thing. Mate has a display license for explosives and stuff (he does vietnam re-enactments). He got very nervous ..... seems youre breaking the law!

He could get away with a CO2 cylinder cut open, with large wheels (ie made into a 'cannon' - he also does historical re-enactments but the lack of need for C2 explosive became a bit boring for him. Anything following the musket principle was a big NO. Seems the police are getting stricter and stricter if you're caught. You can get away with it if the 'gun' is less than a silly low number of joules energy.

Good luck anyway

i believe you can use 4" soil pipe for the chamber and 1.5" pipe for the barrel. You can get adapters to go between them.

Try your local Al Quaeda branch. Ask for a Mr Ji Haad he should be able to sort you out.

An air or CO2 cannon which is capable of firing a projectile with an energy of greater than 12 ft Lbs is classed as a firearm! To own one you would require a Firearms Certificate (in the UK) and here's the catch 22 - anyone considering building a cannon is unlikely to be considered to be a fit person to hold said Firearms Certificate

Use the brown Waste pipe I think the spec is something like DW40. Its much stronger and safer due to the pressure involved. Have a good search for "Spudgun" or similar.

At the moment my tire blaster has a fanned end to direct air inside the tire so it cant really fire anything, but that just unscrews to leave a plain pipe that would be ideal for small tatties etc. As it operates at 100psi am I breaking the law?

If your (hypothetical) cannon fired a (very small) 1 oz tattie at just 75mph muzzle velocity - this would have in excess of 12 ft Lbs energy and would be illegal.

Ok lads when the day of the revolution comes we can all arm ourselves with spud guns in the certain knowledge that we would be able to safely defend ourselves agaings all foes. Cabbages and King(edward)s would stand no chance.

Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.
