Plumber / Water Board....HELP Needed.

We had to turn off the water to the house today to fix a small dripping joint on the inlet pipe. Main stopcock in road was very tight but we managed to turn it till water pressure was low (just a low trickly), but not quite stopped.

Then the handle sheared off!

What can I do about this?, I only want to turn it back on this once as there are internal valves i can use for normal plumbing changes etc. I have tryed Mole grips and although I got quite good purchase it wasnt enough to free it up that first twist.

Please HELLLLLLLLLLLLP,
Cheers, Steve

Have you got a cam type stud extractor you could put over the spindle?

I couldn't turn ours off a couple of years ago when I was doing an outside tap which came off the main before the house stop cock so I phoned the water board. They came out within two days, dug the pavement up and fitted a new one. I didn't get a bill so I assume it was their responsibility.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

if you can loosen the gland nut first this should ease the turning of the spindle, but beware not to remove it altogether

and make out its an emergancy, tell them there are kids in the house and no water, should see them out in a few hours. Its free because they are responsible for the supply and the outside stopcock.
