Fraudster jailed over bike scam
JUSTICE FINALLY caught up with an internet fraudster when he was jailed for 10 and a half months by an Angus sheriff yesterday.
After 23 appearances in a case which first called in court more than two years ago, Allan Stewart (31) was imprisoned by Sheriff Kevin Veal at Forfar
for a fraud involving the sale of motorbikes on the eBay internet auction site.
Stewart, of Viewfield Road, Ayr, had earlier admitted that, having formed a scheme to obtain goods by fraud, between May 1, 2004, and June 30, 2004,
at High Street, Edzell, or elsewhere, he induced Jonathan Nicholas Moore to provide him with four motorbikes.
He told Mr Moore he would pay him, when he had no such intention.
Stewart also previously admitted a similar offence against Ian William Murdy, involving 10 motorcycles and £2000 in payment.
In two more admissions of fraud, he told Paul Anthony Wakefield he would supply 10 motorbikes and gained £2040, and pretended to Caroline Greenwood he
would supply her with a motorcycle and gained £260 in payment.
Fiscal depute Donna Brown told the court an arrangement between Moore and the accused had operated successfully, whereby Stewart would order
motorbikes and sell them on the internet.
He then placed an order for a number of machines and did not pay for them.
In the other offences, Stewart had money paid directly into his bank account for motorbikes which were never sent to the purchasers.
The court was told that Stewart had psychiatric and alcohol problems, which had resulted in him being sectioned during the lengthy history of the
case.
Sheriff Veal said, “It seems that the level of the fraud is such that a prison sentence cannot be avoided.
“I recognise the problems are alcohol induced, but that is of little consolation to those who have lost quite substantial sums of money as a result of
his activities.
He also ordered Stewart to pay compensation totalling £1000 to his victims.

bloody useless, for how few people get caught and how many people get ripped off, he should get 3 years, or one year if he managed to repay everyone
and pay for his own prosecution.
