Those Texans know how to have fun!

A top end run In Texas

texas mile

Check these bits from the rules:

OVERRUN Beyond the Shutdown - Oops or Oh S**t!!! If you cannot SAFELY make the right turn to the return road, don’t worry. You still have serviceable overrun. KEEP IT STRAIGHT!!! Spinning to scrub speed is never a good idea. The surface of the overrun beyond the end is SOLID (old pavement) but the surface ROUGH. Sideways off the end is also not a good idea. This “paved but rough” overrun is about another ¼ mile; then you will see cones in a Vee pattern intended to “funnel” you to a dirt road through the trees for about another ¼ mile. If you haven’t stopped by then, you will be at the highway. You now have a choice: find something to hit or keep going until you get to town. When you do finally stop, TURN OFF YOUR MASTER SWITCH!!!
Pump/Racing gas or “Fuel” - If you are running anything other than pump or racing gas, make sure to notify your “Tech Inspector”. The Crash Rescue Team MUST be aware of any vehicle that has NOS, nitro, methanol, acetone, or any other oxidizers, additives or exotics (fuel not dancers) aboard.
CLOTHING: Non-synthetic fabric clothing (cotton, wool, leather etc.), covering torso, arms(to biceps) and all legs, plus "tennis" shoes without holes are the minimum standard. Driving gloves are highly recommended. Golf gloves are not considered appropriate. NO open toed shoes, shorts, tank tops or cowboy boots may be worn.

SUMMARY of RESULTS:
1. Two-days of running: There were 787 passes made
2. There were 136 entrants including Motorcycles, Sports Cars, Trucks and Land Speed Racing Vehicles/Motorcycles.

We are still processing all the runs to determine the winners in various classes, but here are some highlights:

3. The Unlimited Race Car with Power Adder Record was broken and a new record established: John Kiewicz (MotorTrend Magazine - see his info above in the press area) in Hennessey's Twin-Turbo Dodge Viper Competition Coupe went 217.448. John came all the way from Los Angeles, CA to meet up with Houston Based Hennessey Motorsports.
4. The Project X Truck established the Diesel Truck records with and without Power Adders: 150.322 MPH without NOS: 161.007 with NOS. Then they drove the truck home to the DFW area.
5. Tom Sauter took top honors for the fastest overall truck to ever compete in The Texas Mile: 177.629 MPH. Tom came all the way from Lake Havasu, Arizona.
