What Boiler??
Im just starting my 2nd develpment project. i want to get a new combi boiler fitted, not sure what to go for and where is best to get it from.
House is a std 3 bed semi, quite modern. Im looking for a good boiler that people will recognise as being a quality item whilst not breaking the
bank.
Q1 - what are the new regs ref boiler type? Do they have to be high efficiency condensing?
Q2. Anyone know how the new HIP pack works and if a good boiler will score highly on the energy efficiency survey (or whatever its called).
Q3 - What size will i need? 3 bedrooms, cav waal insulation. one bathroom, one bath / shower (ie no en-suite).
Q4 - Does anyone have a good web link for internet buying?
I dont mind paying a couple hundred quid more for a well known make that will make people think the house is done to a high spec to make it wort a few
grand more (my philosophy is high spec develpment that wont break the bank but will challenge the ceiling price when selling)

Concider having solar hot water fitted. Some combi boilers are compatible and some aren't. IF you have a hot water tank, you'll need a
twin coil tank. They can pay for themselves quite quickly, I believe.

Vaillant or Worcester are your best bet - easy to get service cover for and good established reliable brands - always go for condensing.
Do not bother with solar - payback periods are only just about feasible and if gas prices go down you will not get a payback in 20 years.

Vaillant is one make i was considering. I fitted a Baxi to a house a while back and had some bother with it, not serious but enough to make me think
twice.
Im wondering about a Vaillant Ecotec pro 24. I have seen the 28 for £788 plus £40 delivery with std flu kit. Hopefully i can get a 24 cheaper. May
need to factor in a time clock module. Is that a good price or can they be had for less?
I get lost off when i look at all of the different types available!
I want a std good quality condensing combi. The Vaillants seem to have a good HW flow rate in case i opt fot mains shower and also have a heat store
for instant ish hot water.

The Energy Performance Certificate does indeed include the boiler. It will generally recommend one if it is not fitted already. They are
slightly more complicated and therefore perhaps slightly more likely to go wrong. However the general concensus seems to be that if a new boiler is
need, get a condensing one.

Ive bought a few sabres of late which are vokeiras with a different name on . They seem fine and the price is right.

with a 3 bed you really want to go for a 28 instead of a 24.
I'd go Valiant over the Worcester

Ive opted for the Vaillant Ecotec plus 831. Sounds like a fantastic boiler, also getting the remote control panel. I considered the 28 but it only has
1 year warranty. 831 has 2 year for £50 more so a good deal to offer new buyers for piece of mind.
i could have gone cheaper on the boiler but after having issues with Baxi there was no way i was going for an obscure make considering the
installation labour is the same - false economy. Opting for the Vaillant - being sedbuk A - i will get the best poss energy rating when i get the HIP
done. Im hoping this strategy will allow me to claw back the boiler cost on the house price.
I can now get a good mains power shower as well as the HW flow rate is excellent.
