OT - Please sign this petition, it may help
I found this petition whilst looking for some information, purely by accident.
It's about new mothers who die following child birth in UK hospitals from an infection that should not be present in 21st century Britain.
They only have 2442 signatures so far, so I thought the members of this forum might wish to spare a minute to help the guy who started the petition,
and to bring it to the attention of the government.
Petition:

Cheers.
Steve.

Done!
Well done that man.
It's about time our Government started spending our money on what we need. Not wasting it on feeding their egos.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

I think the petition is well meaning but perhaps misguided.
All Drs, midwives etc are trained to recognise Puerperal fever. The only trouble is you need enough of them to actually be there to see the signs
develop.
The lack of midwives on antenatal wards is quite scary and rather scandalous..... That's one reason why maternal death is going to go up and
up... that and the fact that the government appears to be going with the popular vote and encouraging home births
Of course if the petition is succesful the government will spend millions on a "puerperal fever tsar" who will troll round the country at
great expense (to the tax payer) handing out snazzy posters and flyers to the few midwives on the wards whilst totally refusing to critisize the
people that pay their (ie the tzars) wages... Anyway, if they're too succesful they'd do themselves out of a job....
Most of the government initiatives on health are such a load of spin and PR they're just a waste of cash...

OOOOOOhhhh don't get me started on the NHS
Done
my wife is a midwife, and they have to fight for the mothers rights...
the stories i have heard from her and our friends would make you cry and angry.
too many butt covering managers all to keen to point the finger and divert the blame.
my wife now has 2 degrees and is leaving midwifery because the service has become untennable. a lot of good kind caring people getting burnt out.
