Airbus Advice

Does anyone on here work or have any experance in the aircraft industry. Getting really sick of my job( been there 14 years) and since the boss retired and his son took over 6 years ago things have really gone down hill in the firm. Theres only 2 of us out of the original team left now and the other is now applying for another job so i think it's time for me to jump ship as well, and i'm hoping Airbus near Chester is going to be the answer so i've sent of a short C.V. but would like an insight into the trade if anyone can help.
I realise his is a long shot but could do with some light at the end of the tunnel at the moment, and not just somebody walking towards me with a torch
Any Advice welcome
Thanks

I used to work there on the A380 side of things as a manufacturing engineer. I left about 3 years ago, but if you have nay specific questions, give me a shout!

What is it exactly that you do, or want to do?

Cheers
Andy

Know how you feel mate. Someone turned the light off in my tunnel years ago.
Sitting at work just now with nothing to do and there is a strong rumour that there will be a anouncement tomorrow that there will be more redundancies or closure. Might just be the kick up the a*se i need to move on......

Good luck
Ronnie

Good luck
Paul

On the plus side, Airbus should have tons of really good quality alloy in the scrap bins!

I work in the Aerospace composites industry. Airbus Filton are just down the road from here. In their present situation I wouldn't dream of working for them. They have just made a hell of a load of people redundant, and the A380 really isn't selling. That doesn't bode well IMHO.

Hi,

I work for BAE Systems who until recently owned the Chester plant. I know a couple of people jumped from my department to go there some time ago.
There used to be a shed load of overtime then, i've no reason to believe that it should be any different now....
Working conditions in that sort of environment are generally very good, due to the quality requirements that are maintained.
Conditions of employment used to be good i.e. 24 days annual holiday, sick pay, pension etc. but now it's changed hands I'm not sure....it's worth finding out if it's fully employed or fixed term contract work.

Rich.

I believe Airbus have a freeze on head count at the moment so there is no real recruitment going on!

So where do you work Twybrow? You being in Eveshum your only just up the road from me.

I'm also in the aero industry and have worked in composites for the past 10 years (aero, defence, automotive and motorsport)

I used to work for for a defence company near me. We used to hear all sorts of things about the state of the aerospace industry. Its pretty ropey at the moment. We theorised that after the (IIRC) BAE sell off that within a few years a lot of Airbus work will end up in Russia and what will be left of the UK Aerospace industry will be military or specialist.
