Security Laser
Does anyone know where I can get one of them laser beams that are generally found on security gates or garages? Someone has been in my parents rear
garden and they're looking for some deterrent that could set the burglar alarm off. CCTV's a little expensive it seems and they'd
rather deter them than catch them.
Cheers

When I was with the marines, we had a very sophisticated system that would deter most people - it involved some dental floss and a bunch of mess
tins.
Rid it up to cause a massive commotion should it be tripped.

If you go to a decent 'country sports' shop - sort of place that sells shotguns, fishing gear, etc - you might find 'alarm
mines', which are trip wires with 12-bore blanks attached.
Walk through the thread, blank goes off mightily just next to you - brown trouser job!
Also legal, as long as you don't put real 12-bore cartridges in them...

Forget the Frag, go for the old Shake 'n' Bake (White Phos) - sounds and lights!

Paintball mines?
Explosive and amusing!
Or as said, the "alarm mines" or whatever they're called these days. 12 gauage blanks going off at ear level will put more than one
or two scallies off. Oh, and stop them hearing for a while!
Or just get a bloomin' huge dog.
Let your plans be dark and as impenetratable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.

I think we're getting a bit carried away. I know me mam won't have anything that goes bang. She all but denies anything I did in the
forces. As for dogs, she has two tiny yorkies and these are what she's worried about getting battered in the house. Nowt really of any value
worth nicking in the house. I just need to add a bit of reassurance for her.

OK - on a more basic level, how about some good old security lights... nice big bright 500W jobbies with a PIR trigger.
Nothing the villains like less than working in the glare of bright lights, in full sight of the neighbours.

Maplins do a basic IR beam kit - just needs something to link it into - e.g. alarm, light etc..

You're actually better off with a constant light than a PIR trigger - it's been proven to be more of a deterent (if annoying for the
neighbours!)

You need a wireless PIR that operates a remote alarm/chime/light switch not an IR break beam
B& Q have what you want either combined with a spot light or just a wireless PIR and remote chime on its own works day or night.
I have one set up with 3 detectors.
Alternatively look at some of the Micromark CCTV based systems B&Q systems.

Surely an external PIR liked to the burglar alarm system isnt a good idea. Wouldnt birds and leaves set it off?
This is personal advise or personal opinion.
Constructive comments gratefully recieved, picking is left for noses.

Trident, any pictures or make/model of what you have. I did think I'd seen summat in B&Q but now can't find it, thought I'd
imagined it. JamJah I'd just put the beam before the entrance to the doorway to protect that and the windows and luckily the birds tend to stay
at the bottom of the garden, probably because of the dogs barking.
